Is AE the only regional with a DFW domicile?

All the horror stories I am reading about commuting is having me rethink my plans. As far as I can tell, Eagle is the only regional that has a base in the DFW area, can this be right?

Yes, Eagle is the only regional.

If you like charter, look at Champion Air. They have a DFW base.

If you have the experience, look at some of the fractionals.

As far as the majors, Southwest and American are obviously there, but they are not hiring. American will probably never hire again, at least as far as I can see. <sigh>

theres a few with houston bases, thats a pretty easy commute from dallas.

Check out Colgan too. They have a base in Tyler, TX, which is only an hour and a half from Dallas. You can drive that one.

As of today, that is right. 3 years ago, ASA had a DFW domicile. My advice - pick a domicile that is a carrier's bread and butter or stronghold. Small bases tend to be easier closed. But then again, anything can happen!

Eagle has a pretty junior base in DFW as far as i know, I used to live in dallas and tried hard as i could to get in to Eagle with lower than posted mins, but could not. If you got the mins, i'd say go for it. Eagle seems like a pretty tight ship even despite the sell-off rumors i'm still considering making the jump from piedmont over there.

ExpressJet will be hiring again in a month or two, with next class dates beginning in May 2008. DFW is a very easy commute to/from Houston and we also have San Antonio available. 75% of the flying here remains with Continental, so doubt the doubters and make your best pick if you must have a Texas domicile.

So, don't count us out - this has been, and continues to a be great place to work.

I doubt XJET will be hireing for the classes in May. They already have MANy in the pool that will be getting that class. MAy will go to the guys hired Oct-Dec 07 followed by anyone else but they are being very selective now.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm a low time guy, so I am looking at the regionals as my next step before charter or fractional flying (Can you say FlexJet?). I should have Eagles mins by this spring so I am thinking Eagle as my first choice because of the easy commute (I live in Fort Worth). I have heard good things about XJet as well, so hopefully they will have begun reducing any backlog created by their hiring gap by the time I have their mins so I will have another option. Thanks for the heads up on Colgan, but Tyler is about a 2+30 drive for me, so that could be a tough commute (I'd have to trade my pick up truck in for a Prius)

DFW is NOT junior... at least not on the EMB. 15 months in and my classmates and I STILL cannot hold a hard line. Not even a Relief Line, for that matter.

Whether or not to commute is a personal preference; some people hate it, for others it's a way to get the QOL/seniority/pay they want and things work out great. I think most places out of DFW are relatively commutable, but there's a few (like ORD) that are almost impossible. There's lots of flights on multiple carriers to DEN so Skywest would be a good commutable choice... ATL isn't very bad either (i've been back and fourth several times) so maybe RAH (Shuttle)?
