TSA Base

Anybody know if you have a choice of base?
Thanks

ExperimentalAB 01-22-2008 04:46 PM

You will always have a choice of base, regardless of Airline. The catch is, your seniority must be able to hold it :D. If you don't get what you want out of training, my guess is (I've been removed from Trans States for awhile now) you can hold it shortly.

You have a choice of either St. Louis or Richmond and everyone I know of has gotten their choice.

jaded 01-22-2008 05:58 PM

Everyone in the Dec and Jan class were granted their choice of domicile.

Ramprat 01-22-2008 06:01 PM

Which dom would be most desirable? Trying to think of places in STL that aren't too far from the airport and far away from...bad..places..

spartanpilot 01-22-2008 06:06 PM

On the east side of st. louis is pretty nice, just go further east than the city of east st. louis. There is a metrolink (train) that goes directly to the airport (with a ton of stops). about a 30 - 45 min. drive if you live in Edwardsvile Ilinois area.

grizzz 01-22-2008 06:19 PM

Thanks for that info I live in Boise and i'm trying to find a base from the midwest to the west.
Do you work for TSA?

Mossy 01-22-2008 07:16 PM

if you're not from st louis you probably won't like it, but as it stands right now if you choose st louis as your domicile rather than richmond you'll get off reserve quicker.

Thanks just trying to stay closer to Idaho.

When a commuter, proximity doesn't necessarily mean an easier commute. In this case, however, they are one and the same. STL would be far better to commute in and out of.

Why not out of Salt Lake City or Denver.... much closer to Idaho than STL

No I am from St. Louis....Chautauqua just hired me not too long ago, and I am trying to get back there. I don't think St. Louis is a bad town at all.

Pilotpip 01-23-2008 10:09 AM

I grew up three miles east of STL. I survived. It's not a bad area, just not a good one.

Go a little west (St. Charles, St. Peters, O'Fallon) of the airport, or just a few miles south (University City, Richmond Heights, Maplewood, Webster Groves) and the neighborhood gets much nicer.

Ramprat 01-23-2008 10:18 AM

I lived about 40 min east of St. Louis in a little town named Highland, IL. I suppose a lot of places outside of the metro are quite nice, I just think the drive to the airport would get old. I suppose thats the trade off unless you want to live right near the airport, but its not as "quiet".

grossole 01-23-2008 10:42 AM

There are a lot of nice areas within 15-20 minutes of the airport. The Central West End, Soulard, St. Charles, Webster/Kirkwood just to name a few.

Pokerpilot 01-23-2008 01:29 PM

I would recommend RIC. And let me know if you need a crashpad too :)

40 miles? You poor thing!

I know guys who drive 3-5 hours to get to work :p

I drove over 2 hours to work each way when I was based in RIC...that only got old when I spent a week on airport-reserve...! Not a problem on the beginning and tail-ends of a 4-day once a week.

reevesofskyking 01-23-2008 03:11 PM

I drive three hours each way for a trip

Still beat communting by plane, dont loose any days off

The best part is that you are not at the mercy of an Airline...That is not a comfortable spot to be in when your Job is on the line and there is weather all around... I would drive 5 hours if it meant I didn't have to fly the Airlines to work!

Foxcow 01-23-2008 06:15 PM

University City is the best place to live in the St. Louis area hands down.

grossole 01-23-2008 06:24 PM

What Soulard isnt good enough for you?

Soulard is cool but U City is just money! If I were going to live in STL (lived there for almost three years), U City would be the place.

grossole 01-23-2008 06:26 PM

I thought you would fit in better in the Central West.

flynavyj 01-23-2008 08:14 PM

he'd fit in better at the corner of 18th st. jk

should also look at maryland heights and creve coeur, there are some nice apts in those areas. I was born and raised in bridgeton, which used to be a great neighborhood, it's not as "nice" as it was, but it's still not bad, nor dangerous, etc....St. Ann can be questionable in places, but it's still not high on the "you're gonna get shot" scene.

spartanpilot 01-24-2008 09:02 AM

I heard Sauget and Washington Park were nice this time of year ;)
