Should I be happy or not?
Because of the amount of 700 FO's upgrading to CA at ASA, there has been a shortage of 700 FO's. So in turn, low seniority 200 FO's and new hires are being junior manned to the 700. I was one of the fortunate low seniority 200 FO's who will have to change over.
I was looking at 3 months of reserve on the 200, but now 6 months at the absolute least on the 700. But its a nicer airplane all around and Ill go to more exotic places...so im a little torn:confused: |

No you should not, reserve sucks.

Do you live in domicile?...And since you've been junior manned, if you don't like it..can't you just go back when the need isn't there?

"It could always be worse"
That's what keeps me level headed on a daily basis. Probably not the best way to look at things but it's true. And at least you don't have to commute. |
Take the line, you'll make a lot more money and when you can hold a line on the CR7, then move over. Don't get SJS, take the money and spend it during your time off or invest it.
You'll be much happier. |
I dont get it, if they are so "short handed", then why the long sit on reserve?

Whats JSJ?
Basically when a pilot gets fixated on a shiny jet and looks past all common sense (pay, QOL, upgrade, goes to a crappy airline, etc) just to fly it. |

Sorry, typo, I meant SJS (Shiny Jet Syndrome).
Its a nicer airplane than the 200 but not that much nicer. I would rather prefer the shorter reserve than a nicer airplane. |

It's the reason why I took the EMB when I first came to SKW. They first offered me the RJ but I asked if there was an earlier class date, there was so I took it. All of our a/c pay the same for the first year and I wanted the seniority, to date I've never had a reserve line. Plus the RJ class was almost 2 months after the EMB which ended up being over 250 seniority numbers. |
I just started reserve and its not so bad because it takes me 5 mins to get to the crew lot. What im wondering is at what point does this begin to suck? even if i live so close...if you stand on my lawn you can hear takeoff and reverse thrust roars
|
I live in Roswell; the only thing you can hear here is those damn Maddogs (LOUD) or a bunch of GA weekend warriors. It's nice, I live on a golf course and I’m a stones throw from a few lakes.
Off peak it takes me about 35 minutes to get to the airport and about an hour during rush hour. |
If you are a new hire and get junior manned to the 700 you can bid back to the two hundred as far as i know. Looks like the ATR will start becoming more junior on the FO side around march with a bunch of guys going to the 700. the latest ATR captain award was #1202 so the captain side is extremely junior now.

If so, I wonder if one can get JM’d to CA? LOL! All in good fun. |
Whats the seniority like on the ATR for FO's? I would like to bid from the -200 to the -700 , but I am concerned that when the ATR retires, all the ATR FO's will bid over to the -700, and I'm wondering where I'll stand (I've been at ASA for about 15 months).

Jock I was just going off the way he put it man... but i wish that was the case! In terms of ATR fO's moving over i wouldn't see much of a problem if you already have 15 months, most of the guys moving have about that much time at the company so they would probably be junior to you. Besides i think ( i could be wrong) but delta pays a hefty fee if they take away flying so maybe they will replace the ATR with more 700's or 900's. We do have 76 seat rates in the contract. |

No....but Cozumel, Belize, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, and sometimes Jamaica. Not bad. Fun flying, and a lot better than Dothan, Omaha, and Gulfport. |

Keep in mind they are all turns.. so you'll see it, but leave 30 minutes later. Make sure you aren't on the aircraft freeze list for the -700. I saw a lot of guys who bid the 700 are gonna be stuck on it now till 2011. Yay for Reserve ;-) |
