ASA Training...

Just looking to get some info on the training at ASA. I am in the 2-25 class, and just kinda looking for some info on what to expect. Kinda the whole process like a little play by play of what goes on.

So any info you could give me would be great.

Basically, Indoc goes on. You will be indoctured.

great. . .years on reserve. . .on the 700.

:(

Nevertheless, 50 seat flying is not cost effective anymore. . .at least not coming out of a -200.

The reserve is so long, no new-hire in their right mind would bid to sit on reserve for a year minimum. ... but then again, I know some guys who did bid it.. on purpose.

Are they still doing it by age?

cbram 02-06-2008 02:32 PM

yes you bid for a/c then if they need people for a certain type then they junior assign it

papacharlie 02-06-2008 04:53 PM

Aren't they parking the ATR fleet soon? Or they figured that they can make more money flying the ATR than crj200 on some routes?

ehaeckercfi 02-06-2008 05:00 PM

They are still hiring into the ATR, but they plan on having it retired by December this year. Take it as blessing if you get it. Fun airplane and another thing to put on your resume. Everybody will be on the jet soon enough.

papacharlie 02-06-2008 05:05 PM

I don't know if I can make by december but I'll try...love to fly the props

nicholasblonde 02-07-2008 12:30 AM

So would it be accurate to say anyone who bid the ATR, then inevitably had to transition to the jet, would end up with two types (at least "SIC" types)???

fit29 02-07-2008 02:57 AM

If somebody that is young, around the youngest of the class, would it be better for them to bid for the ATR to try and avoid the 700 or is it better to bid the 200?

Good luck finding an ATR at Skywest.

Yes, that would be accurate. I'm on the 200, but from what I hear the ATR is the best plane at ASA. I wouldn't mind flying it for a while.

It's "indoctrination" or indoctrinated," not indoctured. Thats not a real word! :)

Your point? Good luck finding an ATR at ASA in 10 months...

From everything I've heard that sounds like the best thing to do. Just try to get a class date before they phase it out (which I hope they won't, since I think it's presence stabilizes ASA's contract with Delta (i.e. Delta can do those routes for cheaper with oil north of $80/barrel than they can with 50 seaters)).

papacharlie 02-07-2008 03:36 PM

I said I love to fly props and Skywest has the Bro right? and also I'm living in san diego but a little short on the multi total for Skywest.
That's why I was asking about the ATR at ASA I wouldn't mind to move to the east coast.
10 months well a little info about that, i broke my neck last year and Im getting back to be current medical and on the air...so I guess it will take me a little bit more than if I were 100%.

papacharlie 02-07-2008 03:37 PM

It's been really hard having the hours and not been able to apply last year...

So if your the youngest in the class bid the ATR? Not 200?

atlmsl 02-07-2008 05:38 PM

Well if you want to fly the jet, bid the 200. You get a preference bid. So you can bid 200, ATR, 700 if you want or any order. Bid what you want, let seniority do the rest

nicholasblonde 02-07-2008 07:40 PM

The interactive routemap on the website is decent since it lists typical equipment on routes...just in case you're nerdy and get that detailed on what you're gonna shoot for (esp. if you're older and have a good chance of getting what you bid for).
