It's a tough gig there. All the diverse traffic makes for some int interesting situations. I've heard legend that one of the ladies working 9.4 lately is a hot little momma. At least that's what I like to think when they are yelling at me.

As for the other controllers, most of them are actually quite pleasant to deal with, but as with many, they can get in situations where they need to be harsh or short with pilots. Considering the airport consists of about 4 flight schools with half of them accommodating foreign pilots who don't speak english especially well. Add that to the amount of airline jets and corporate jets that fly in there, it can lead to some interesting situations to say the least. I guess that's why it's known for having one of the most runway incursions in the country.
I know exactly who you're talking about and yes, she is quite the hottie

I've flown in there about 20 times over the past 6 mo's in the Sabre and have never had a problem, always polite to us. I have yet to see this controller but she is the talk of the FBO.
With the students that I hear on the radio there I'm suprised they are not pulling their hair out-Remindes me of Vero Beach during the 90's.

They get mad when we can't hit Golf in the bus.
There was some dude a few months ago that was a total prick. Just a total jackass.
A few CA's were upset that he would time the traffic in the downwind for 25L to be passing over three zero when we were on short final. A few complained and I we didn't hear him for weeks. He came back with a new attidue.

ahh LGB.... so other people are having problems there too!
It's amazing that the controller we're thinking about is so well known, that even LOSAL right across are to the point where they have to prepare themselves incase LGB will decide to be p***y and not let you in.
I've had a chat with one of the controllers there and he said they don't understand it.... usually traffic goes in, traffic goes out.... nothing to it, but at LGB .... ahh thats special.
As for diverse traffic, runway configuration etc.... give me a BREAK! Go up to VNY and see how to fit a 172 behind a Kingair with a G5 behind the Cessna... It can be done and without the attitude.
I can see how downwind for 25L and traffic airplane over the 405/605 interchange can be a problem for 121 traffic landing on 30 (or downwind tfc on 25R for GA maneuvers), but c'mon! 350 days a year it's visual.... if they need some training on how to work with very low margins they can come to Minneapolis any day which does almost exactly the same thing with 100% 121 traffic.
I know we've had a few phone conversations with them over the years and the supervisors always had to apologize and explain that their people are overworked and short staffed..... maybe that's something for us to keep in mind while flying in/out of LGB.
