Here's a tip for your Jepp binders

Some of you older guys may know this (so don't flame me), but I just discovered it last night and thought I would pass it along for the benefit of other newer pilots like myself.

It turns out that DayRunner (the day planner company) uses the exact same paper size and seven-hole punch pattern as Jeppesen. I was looking for a hole punch, for which pilot stores charge about $40 (sheesh!!...I'm an FO...that's a week's worth of food). The DayRunner punch is exactly the same pattern and costs about $9 at OfficeDepot or OfficeMax. That also means that all the DayRunner accessories (for 5.5" x 8.5" size planners) such as the zipper pockets, dividers, paper, calendars, or whatever will all fit beautifully in your airway or company manuals. It's the exact same paper size and hole punch pattern.

Like I said...just a tip I discovered. It saved me some money, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Nice work!!

I look like an old guy, and I didn't know this. Thanks for the tip, hope we see more posts like this.

ps. If $40 is a week's worth of food, you need to find more pilot-friendly, happy hour buffets...lol.

Good post,

FF

On the dayrunner site they list a six-ring punched set only - am I the only one with seven-ring punched Jepps?

I've always used a Dayrunner ruler as my marker for my home airport for the last decade, at least. It pops in and out easily, but not as easily as the other jepp color-coded thingies I have. I never thought to tell others about it, I thought everyone knew. Whoops!

All the day runners I see have 6 holes (not like my Jepps, you're not the only one HSLD), except this

Thanks! Dayrunner CLASSIC refills it is!

I don't need one more sheet of paper in my Jepps. There are way too many Jepp plates to think about adding more pages. Besides, what would I add and why?

I agree. My Jepps are busting at the seams too. I was originally looking for a compatible 7-hole punch because I was lacking a few bulletins in my company manuals and needed to print them off from home. I commute out of Memphis, and my mailbox is in Detroit. But, recently I've been doing most of my flying out of MSP. If I'm not around my mailbox, I've found it's fairly easy to find the Jepp revisions at another domicile, but searching through file cabinets in the crew rooms for missing bulletins can be much more difficult. For me it's easier to just print them off our company website at home and throw them in the book in my spare time when I don't have a flight to make. Once I figured the trick out, I also started using one of the DayRunner zipper pouches in the front of my airport directory to keep my checklist, stolen hotel notepads, and extra TOLD cards. Those things are always getting lost in the depths of my flight bag.

I appreciate the comments, everybody. Happy to help! Sorry for the confusion on some of the six-hole DayRunner products. Anything from the "Classic" line fits.

You can go even cheaper and buy a three ring binder in the jepp size. You're just going to have to invest in some page protectors and gummed reinforcements. I had to use those in the 7 ring binder anyway.

Thanks for the tip!

logbook sheets?

I know I could make something basic pretty easily in this regard, but does anyone know where I could find logbook sheets that would fit in the jepp binders?

Hmm i just found an iphone logbook - maybe I don't need these after all :)
