Eagle Emergency Landing in CLT

Was flying out of CLT today and heard Eagle flight 207 (?) talking to departure and declaring an emergency. They said "fuel leaking out of the right wing". The crew sounded very composed. Just wondering how everything turned out and how something like that could happen, and how did they notice.

No news sometimes means good news!!

Not sure of any hard details, but from what I do know: they thought they had a problem, returned to the airport, and left a few hours later after determining there was no problem.

Hey Matlok, what's up with that avatar? When do you make the switch. I'm seeing more and more of those 175's in MEM now. We actually outclimbed one tonight to FL 200. I don't know what he was taking so long to get there. Anybody know the climb profile on those?

We do 290/.74 pretty much all the time unless we need the angle to clear wx. If it was bumpy, FLCH could've been killing his vertical speed. We are just getting the new load at RW that has a better function that doesn't seem so aggressive to hunt for speed. The climb really slows down from about FL250 till you transition to mach around FL290. Then it picks back up again. Lots of guys will use vertical speed or FPA to get through that part of the climb. Just have to make sure you set your target speed high enough so the AT's don't pull back the power in the climb.

If you "out-climbed" him then he was probably LEVEL... ;)

The avatar is a long story... well not really but I'll tell ya later it's kinda dumb. Not sure what is going on in MEM, the rumor is April for it and DTW. I start class later this month.

If it was an Eagle ERJ and it was loaded down with fuel, it was probably a non-event. Probably got over-fueled, it expanded, and it came outta the right wing down by the aileron (there's a fuel vent there on the underside of the wing). It's not the norm, but it does happen. The one time I saw it, we called MX and after about 5 minutes it stopped once the right tank was about 200 lbs lighter. Made sure the plane was good with MX, ran the numbers with dispatch to make sure our remaining fuel was adequate (it was) and went on our way without further incident.

We were alerted by tower telling us we had "a pretty good contrail coming off the right wing". It sounds like a bigger deal than it really is.
