Does your landing look like this?
Here's a video of an E-145 fighting some x-wind and windshear all the way down. Landing was absolutely brilliant.

Cessna...I sent you that link after I saw it on this website.....

Yes you did, that's why I re-posted it here

The GPWS and Winshear alerts weren't screaming at him

Nice! somebody was filming me that day! thank you! ;)
|
Great video and deff. a good landing- but shouldnt every airline pilot be able to do that-If you have to think about wether or not you could, maybe you should think about switching jobs.
|
i'd think the majority of pilots who are flying out there could pull it off, it's just interesting to see it from a ground vantage point.
I can think of a couple times i was shooting the visual while looking out the FO's DV window to keep myself on the centerline, but you still don't get a real sense of what it would appear like on the ground with your concentration being set on squeaking her on. ;) |

Not bad for an amateur in 5 knots of crosswind
Very true, never did see a wind sock or indications of wind in the video LOL- maybe it was just a horrible approach that got saved at the last min:D:D |

I was waiting for the nose gear to give out. That's one where you keep the FLTdeck door closed and slide you seat back out of view until everyone deplanes. Then if it's the end of your day or if you have a plane swap, instead of walking up your jetway you go outside and go up the one next door so no one knows you're the crew. LOL! |
That motorhome landing was awesome!
|
Seen that in person. He doesn't always make it either depending on the winds.
|
Does the EMB-Jet have multiple landing flap settings, espec. ones used for crosswinds ???
Not sure if I was clear with my question, but in the DASH-8 we had flaps 15 or 35. Flaps 15 worked better when there was turbulence or crosswinds. Second question, did I miss it, where was the landing at. Does this airport have more than one runway choice ? Just curious, FF |
Depends on the SOP. TSA has a 20* setting option, but i know CHQ is only approved for 45*....
|
Great job of landing, but he should have diverted.

I got to agree with mike. The original post showed a pretty landing following a horrible approach and even worse judgement. Remember, your families ride on these RJ's too. I didn't catch the view of the attitude indicator, but do ya think from that video there was +/- 5 degrees pitch change? Think there was unsual power settings involved too? Remember the Delta airplane at DFW in 1986 or AA in Little Rock just a few years ago? Some good stick skills were shown, but what was the margin of error that he/she thankfully did not cross before this ends up on the front page as a photo of red blinking lights in front of a cloud of black smoke?
Seriously folks. We are all members of the "I did something stupid and lived" club. As professional aviators we are paid to not be a member of that club. Use better judgement so that your family doesn't get a visit from law enforcement accompanied by a chaplain. This guy needs to go through windshear training in his next PC until he learns to go around and wait/find safe conditions. It's one thing when it is you and an airplane. It's another when 50 people paid you to take care of them safely. Rant over. Go have fun in your Pitts/Extra/Super Cub. |
