DL/NWA merger

Maybe this isn't the right thread to post in but this i've only posted in regional so hear goes. Do you guys think it will be a possibility or of benefit to operate both airlines separately if this merger thing does go through? I mean, they focus on different international markets, have different aircrafts, seniority list, pay, hubs, etc. Just a thought that I was a little skeptical about sharing as it may not be such a "bright" idea.

What you are describing isn't a true meger. It would be one aquiring the other and operating the aquired carrier as a separate, but wholly owned entity. I think a true merger is more likely. They have been hammering out ways to blend work groups a lot lately. In theory, I think the merger is smart for NW and DL as companies, but as I've said many times before, these things are never done for the benefit of customers and certainly not employees, just shareholders and execs.

look for surplus feed to be placed on the market imo. consolidation in the regionals a very real possibility.
big picture and don't miss this: the price of operations have increased so dramatically that an entire new tier of essential air service cities will emerge with no federal assistance as of yet to provide.
infrastructure is shrinking which may help alleviate the current pilot shortage.

Seems to me like they already operate as separate entities and share routes under the skyteam alliance. I think they're looking at a true merger to achieve economies of scale. IE.. same work with fewer people. i suppose if the mega airline is successful it could be good for pilots but right now I just see that many more regionals to whipsaw. Victory to the lowest bidder!:(

The current DAL/NWA discussions are about a full merger...they will eliminate duplicate corporate overhead and route overlap. Fortunately for pilots there is not too much route overlap (compared to other possible mergers), and even less regional overlap.

They would not be going to this trouble to own and operate two seperate airlines...not a chance.
