Default Just curious- if YOUR regional went under..

So I was polishing up the resume just as I do every month and my woman asked me the question that actually made me think- she said..."So Ken, if your mgmt is too stupid to get a contract with you guys before a merger or before one of those government people give a ruling against the company and the company becomes even worse or goes under what are you going to do?"

This made me do some thinking and my only answer was "hmm.. don't know".

Here is my thought process.. I am here at PNCL b/c I don't commute (live in MEM) and I want the quick upgrade and the 1000TJPIC. When I came here almost a year and a half ago I knew I would get a good bit of time (JUST shy of 1000hrs last year) and I would be a senior FO in a hurry waiting on age to upgrade. The plan has come together and I layed it out except for the contract. I figured when I came here that we would get a deadline from NWA and we would end up with at least a reasonable contract. While we did get the ASA with NWA with a deadline, the deadline was not firm enough to get mgmt to work hard for a contract.

Colgan was out of left field for everyone, yet personally I am not too concerned about a whipsaw. We have good scope language from our old contract (I personally think we will hear back from an arbitrator in the next month or so and the judgement will be in our favor) and we will not sign a new contract without this scope language strengthened and detailed since PNCL is now a "holding corp". A DL merger is a two sided road for me. If PNCL sticks around with MORE flying between NWA and DL (and the combined entity) I see growth on the -900 side and a possible base in SLC where I would love to live and could hold seniority wise. I will not fly the -900 without a -900 rate but that will come with a contract. I am looking to upgrade in july/august of this year after my wedding and hope to get the 1000TJPIC and get out of here in a hurry.

I have had my sights set on FDX since forever ago with that paris base/757 flying on the wish list. I am aware that everyone else has their sights on fdx with much higher time than me but I can always shoot for a goal. I have my sponsors already lined up so we shall see.

I am not planning on leaving but IF this company goes belly up not too sure what I would do.

So here is the question- if your company were to furlough you or go belly up where would you go today? This is assuming you have 121 time already, but not the 1000TJPIC for the majors (and yea yea some places are not requiring the 1000TJPIC but be realistic).

Not looking for flames- just a conversation among those at different regionals.

Flight instruct locally until the lease on my apartment ran out and see what else came along - flying or otherwise.

I'd go find a King Air job. They are just a lot more fun than transport category jets and you are usually home every night.
