Just awarded Apr 7th class for Upgrade

Just wanted everyone to know that I just accepted an April 7th EMB upgrade class. I’m excited and I feel I’m more than ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

My commute will suck seeing I live in ATL but my wife is 110% behind me and without her support there’s no way I would have been as successful as I am, in both my previous and current jobs.

My reasoning behind accepting the EMB award over the CRJ:

1. I can hope a pretty nice commutable line in SLC & FAT.
2. I can build around 90+ hrs of TPIC every month compared to 30 or so on the RJ.
3. EMB CA line holder pay is comparable to CRJ reserve CA pay.
4. I have a few friends who live in SLC & FAT so no need to drop $175/month on a crash pad.
5. Get an average of 14-15 days off compared to 10-11.
6. With the way things are going (hiring & RJ upgrade freezes) I won’t get awarded RJ CA until Sept or Oct. I’m also expecting more senior guys to take the first 2 or 3 class after the freeze where as they are still going to run the EMB upgrade classes through May and I can get either the Apr or May class. What do they say, “A bird in the hand’s worth two in the bush!”

Congrats, JetJock. Sound like a great decision, although as a commuter I already feel your pain. I couldn't do it without a very supportive wife either.

I'm curious to hear how the transition from the CRJ to the EMB is for you. I'm planning on doing the same thing when I have the seniority for it. Good luck!

Fantastic! Congrats man...let us know how it goes - we're all rootin' for ya!

Shouldn't be that hard seeing I have over 600 hours in the EMB already.

Yes the commute is going to really SUCK! But it's a means to an end and that's what we're keeping in mind.

Good idea to take the opportunity to get turbine PIC when its offered to you...lots of people around Skyway that put in 4-5 years as a 328 FO have to be kicking themselves watching guys that have been on property for half that time going to AirTran and Spirit

Some just can't see past the 8-Leg days! They want to get paid to do nothing ;)

You'd be proud of me. I turned off the autopilot through 20 on the way down yesterday.

Of course, I'm sure I'll be hearing from the FAA pretty soon.

I can do 8 legs a day, no problem! It's the 5:30 you get paid for those 8 legs when you're working the LAX system as well as the 36 hr layovers in IYK that I have a problem with.

Congrats, & Good luck enjoy the PIC ;)

True...I forgot about that...but you can avoid LAX, even with your seniority I am sure!

J.K. congrats and welcome back to the FAT family! I just got to the hotel and saw your name on the list! I know your dieing to get back to IYK for some long overnights! I am sure I will still be here when you get online!

BTW.....did anyone notice there is someone on the award list that got an award to SAN EMB FO from DEN EMB FO? Must be a typo or something since there haven't been BRO's in DEN fro quite some time. Or maybe he was just on leave for awhile?

ficone 02-27-2008 04:21 PM

Congrats JetJock - errm BroJock :)

Any word on how big the May class will be?

Congratulations and good luck...it doesn't matter what airplane it is, there's nothing quite like being captain of your own ship.

Jetjock65 02-27-2008 08:02 PM

Congratulations-I've heard the bro is an awesome airplane and it sound like you have really enjoyed your time on it previously.I'm happy to see that there are people out there that don't put off upgraing and building that PIC time just to be on a jet. Good luck in class im sure with the attitude that you have that you will do fine, you seem like a captian that I would want to fly with. I hope your commute doesnt suck to bad ,at least you'll have plenty of time off with that schedule you'll have. Once again Congratulations Captain Jetjock!!

Thanks, I look forward to being back in FAT and hopefully I'll get to fly with you before you move up or on.

LOL! Yes, I guess PropJock will work too.

Once I'm in class I'm sure I'll be able to add a little more information about upcoming classes but for know all that I know is that they're going to run EMB New Hire classes well before the next CRJ New Hire class and that they haven't cancelled any of the EMB upgrade class where as they've reportedly cancelled all the CRJ upgrade classes through the end of June. From what I've been told they're going to keep the EMB upgrade classes small, something like 4 per class and this information looks to be correct seeing that there are only 4 of us in the April upgrade class. Personally I’m excited about the small class because of the personally attention, overall efficiency and the lack of a large amount of students asking irrelevant questions (you guys know what I’m talking about).
