Paid parking for commuters?
I was just curious if there are any companies that pay for parking at the airport where you commute from? Also, if they do pay, do they just pay up to the cost of parking at your base?
I guess Colgan is starting something like this? I know Skywest doesn't do it. Thanks for the responses :) |
Mesaba also pays for parking at whatever base you choose. I don't know of too many that will pay for parking at just any airport you choose to commute from, usually it has to be from one of the bases.

Most airlines don't pay; however, many airports give a huge discount to airline employees that are commuters. For example, DFW charges $198 for the whole year for employees. Any other person would have to pay $8/ day.

RAH will provide you with a parking pass in base. If you commute, you can be reimbursed for a parking pass at any airport up to the monthly cost of parking in base.

dammit sharky you beat me to it. :)

Trans States reimburses its pilots up to $40/mo. for parking expenses if you submit the receipts.

asa pays for a parking pass out of base.

I am at SkyWest and they only pay for parking at our base. However..... check at the airport your commuting out of as others have stated. I commute out of CID and found away (From another commuter) to park in long term for free! Good Luck!

In RIC, we get $20/mo. I live in Chicago and it's $36/mo for me and Hulas only gives me $20/mo :( |

Care to share how you do this?

Obviously every airport is different, my soon to be commuting airports have some interesting ways of doing it, one has a college/track/ballfield near by, no security, but free, and supposedly Mobile has an old FSS building thats vacant but has a lot, again free.
Think outside the box if you have too, commuting is a hassle enough without figuring out how your are going to pay for parking |
Call some of the privately-owned remote lots. If you are forced into a situation where you have to pay, they might offer something better than the airport parking if you can't find anything else for free. I did that during my IOE since it was only for one week. At MEM, the SIDA badge gets you in and out of the lot, but mine was still being processed. After calling around, I found a crew rate at another lot that was much cheaper than the long term airport parking.

It was tough because my company doesn't regularly serve the DTW airport so I had to get my D.O. and Dir of Trng. to confirm on company letterhead that I was an employee for their company. If your airline serves the airport in some capacity (mainline or express), then I wouldn't think it would be too tough an issue, but then again maybe they're more lax in DTW. |

You need to contact the airport authority office on this matter. When I worked for Gemini, I commuted out of DTW. I had a meeting with an airport authority exec and we arranged for me to pay for a year to park in the employee lot. This gave me access to the non-AOA shuttle bus.

Talk to a hotel manager, park at this hotel, ride the shuttle. Easy.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm actually not a commuter, but you never know what the future can hold.
Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, my question delt with getting the company to pay for your parking from your commuter airport and not where you are based. For example, you can get paid parking at your base or paid parking at your commuter airport up to the cost of parking at your base. I asked this question because I knew some companies would reimburse you to a certain degree. It sounds like RAH, TSA, ASA, and Colgan are the only ones with a policy like that. Hopefully someday this could be the norm at most of the companies. Of course, I'm not holding my breath :D |
At XJ they will pay for only MSP DTW or MEM regardless of where you are based or commute from, you can pick any and only out of the three bases. (I tried to get them to pay for me at DFW, but was rejected)
