Pinnacle Domicile and Reserve Time?

I was reading on another thread and someone said Pinnacle requires line holders to live in their domicile city. Is that true, or can you commute with Pinnacle? It may have been an older thread. Also, how much time is typically spent on reserve for new hires with Pinnacle? Commuting wouldn't be my first choice but I'm pretty much stuck in Denver because of my wife's career (not that it's a bad thing, Denver is a nice town). I'm researching regionals that do and don't have a DEN domicile and this will be my first airline job. Any additional thoughts on commuting? Any helpful info would be appreciated. Fortunately, I have other alternatives with airlines that do service and domicile in DEN, but I want to research them all before making a choice. Thanks and take care.

It's YOUR choice to commute. As long as you can make your showtime then where you live doesn't matter. At 9E, you'd more than likely be a line holder in MEM or DTW relatively quickly (within 6 months). MSP might be a different story.

I left 9E a year ago so YMMV. Keep looking into regionals with a foothold in DEN. I only commuted for my first year at 9E and spent the last 5 in base so my QOL was a lot better than my commuting buddies.

I commute from L.A. to MSP. The commute, believe it or not, is tolerable. NWA has a bunch of flights to SoCal so finding one is never a problem. The only problem is that you are wasting half a day commuting. It was harder during reserve, obviously, but now that I can hold a good schedule its not so bad. I sat reserve for six months in MSP. That was two years ago though. The good thing about MSP and DTW is that they have late airport reserve which allows you to commute in that same day and you are done early on the last day. Basically gives you an extra day off.

Do you guys have a commuter clause in your contract?

Airsupport 03-05-2008 11:23 AM

you do not have to live in base, i don't think you ever have had to. pinnacle has a commuting clause in the contract for people who commute. you have to list on 2 flights and prove that the flights were full or something like that. i don't commute so i have never had to use it or worry about it. but people that i have talked to said they have never been bugged if they followed all the rules for the commute policy.

Thanks.... How long is the typical reserve time at Pinnacle?

Be VERY careful about commuting long-term. Although it sounds like it's working out for Surfer1212, commuting has a big impact on your QOL.

If you can't move out of Denver, research which regionals will give you the easiest commute.

Why 9E? Go for Skywest or Great Lakes instead and live in base.

What about getting the base you want, I live within 45 min of DTW, so obviously that is the base I want. I really don't have any interest in commuting, especially for reserve. I don't think being on reserve will be bad, as long as I don't have to commute for it. So would it be reasonable to assume I could hold DTW right off the Bat?

DTW is currently the most junior base for newhires, followed by ATL, MEM then MSP. So you shouldn't have trouble getting DTW straight out of training regardless of your seniority within your class.

Sorry about hijacking the thread here, but how long it the training? I assume it's down in MEM. Also does anybody know what the current training pay is?
