SkyWest looking to buy MAG, XJT, or both

I have it on good authority that SkyWest is actively and seriously looking at purchasing either MAG, XJT, or both. No, I'm not kidding. Stay tuned and good luck to all.

Highly doubt they'd buy MAG. Jerry wouldn't touch it in the shape it's in. Too far gone to salvage especially with all the lawsuits and crap. Just wait till they tank and then pick up the pieces that ya want, that's what I'd do.

ExpressJet however I could see. I heard that from an XJT friend a while back. Who knows. Like it's been said before....pretty soon we all will be wearing either Skywest or Republic lanyards.

Eeeeeek! It could happen and I know SKW would love to get their hands on MAG's CR9's and US Airways flying, but they could just wait for them to close the doors, which is likely going to happen. If they purchase them they would have to deal with Aloha/Hawaiian – Go, a/c going to China, poorly maintained equipment, lots of bones in the closet and poor labor/contract relations. I don't think Jerry & Co. will go for all that when it comes down to it, but XJT I can see happen.

Expressjet provides just what Skywest, Inc and their shareholders want...another large ALPA-represented regional with too many 50 seat jets in the portfolio.

I won't even mention the dissimilar fleet types.

Oops...

They wouldn't merge us, just whipsaw!

I'd be surprised...

MAG: If Jerry thought ASA was a PITA (which he did), why would he want to touch the mesa pile of doo-doo? If he wants the routes, he can probably just do nothing and they will fall in his lap anyway. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't want anything to do with Go! or KungFu!

XJT: Let's see...50-seaters, relatively expensive labor contract, 50-seaters, alpa, 50-seaters, shaky CAL contract, more 50-seaters. Nothing against XJet, but what do you do with it? Jerry declined to bid on CAL flying the last time he had the chance...he couldn't get the terms he wanted so why would he buy somebody else's terms?

I understand he has money burning a hole in his pocket, but other than that can anybody think of REALLY compelling reasons to buy either? Of course anything is worth buying if the price is low enough...

Given their respective stock prices, either one is probably a bargain right now. I'm no expert, but it seems like "the market" thinks that either company is worth more liquidated than operating.

You forgot 50 seaters.

And to answer you last question, not many reasons to buy either. One thing, but probably doesn't matter or carry any weight, and I mentioned it once before.

XJET STILL has options for 100 XR's. We have heard that Embraer has ZERO interest in spooling up the XR line as it's been shut down, but will gladly convert those 100 options to larger aircraft.

Doesn't seem like it'd make much sense to me to purchase just for the sake of getting some 170's on property, especially at a company that is operating large canadairs. Plus you'd have to figure out what to do with all those pesky 50 seaters, and with the market looking the way it does, offloading them won't be easy, nor very cost-effective.

Hey, now will those go! airplanes over in Hawaii be ETOPS certified if Skywest buys them, or are they still waiting on those A319s to do Southwest flying, with branded service to many of Southwests destinations?

If you ETOPS your RJs, you can fly from the West Coast to Hawaii, no problem, and still have room for tons of powdered sugar with red food coloring drink mix in back, or even under the seats where the life vests should be!
