There has been speculation in the past that people with ATP mins get the 170, and those with less get CHQ. It's not true in my experience. I have an ATP and got the 170, one of my fellow interviewee's had 1000+ and got the 170 as well.
But, having said all this, it is really up to what they need to fill based on their long term projections. I do know that in my interview, all 3 certificates were being hired into.

ATP mins for the 170 used to be true when the program first started. That is no longer the case. The general consensus is that CHQ training is more difficult due to the volumes of memory items and limitations that you are required to learn as well as the tendency to quiz you on "trivia" during orals. The 170 program is much simpler in terms of memorization and is usually considered "easier" for that reason. There are also several CHQ check airmen who have a reputation for trying to make checkrides impossible. You'll get through either one, but there is a distinct cultural difference between the certificates. We are still on one seniority list though and need to work as one.

You hit the nail on the head. I agree. I just kind of resent someone saying that Republic assigns "lesser" qualified pilots to CHQ. Nothing against that poster. He is entitled to his opinion but it is simply misinformed from what I have seen, but thats just my opinion. If anything I have noticed that most of the 170 guys seem younger than those at CHQ. Does that equate to flight experience? I don't know. Like I said, my opinion.
If I said something malicious or incorrect, go ahead and jump my sh!t. Until then....... |

I never said anything about "lesser" pilots going to CHQ. I only posted how the 170 was staffed in the past, confirmed by another user. I also said that it wasn't the case any longer, as evidenced by my personal observations from my interview.
