Application timeframe.
 

First off, hello to everybody-first time poster here.

I finish my Bachelors degree by the last week of June this year, and I am interested in getting on with Piedmont or ASA. I cannot begin training until i am done with my college, so what do you think a good time frame to begin applying is?

I am assuming that if I get hired i would be asked to start as soon as possible, but I am not sure. Would either of these companies interview, (and assuming i get hired) allow me to wait 2-3 months to start training, or should I not even worry about it until June?

ASA can be pretty quick to get the interview and head to class but I hear they've been flexible with start dates. I say give yourself a month. If they know you're finishing school, they'll likely take that into consideration when offering a class date. May want to call and check with them though.

I was less than 1 month from app to BI, and that was me getting screwed up in the new online app system.

For PDT, this is how I told a friend of mine in a similar situation. Graduation was mid December so I told him to send in the application around the beginning of November. It takes about a week till they respond, then about a week or two till the interview. Most classes will start about two to three weeks after the interview. They offered him a class date starting on graduation. He asked if they could put him in the next class since he wanted to walk and parents and all already had made arrangements to attend. No problem, next class was fine with them. Just be honest with them and they will work with you.

Simple...apply about 1.5 months before you want to start.

I wouldn't go that far, but make a note on the application when you are available (they usually have a place for that). When you get called for the interview, also remind them of your availability, just so there is no misunderstanding. If the interviewer expects immediate or two week availability, they might hold it against in the future you if you decline.

ASA usually asks you to start at their next availible class date, but will push back a few weeks if you need to for personal reasons. I was hired on the 6th and the wanted me to start on either the 10th or the 24th. I told them that because of neeeding time to wrap up things at my other employer I would not be able to start until the begining of the next month , they said ok but that pushing it farther back than that may be difficult.

I just went thru the interview process with PDT, I dont graduate until May, but I made that clear to Bob Trout, who is the pilot recruiter and he said it was fine and I could start in the class following graduation. I'd say apply while they are still hiring and let them know about your situation, they will be more than understanding

Im in the same boat with graduation in late May, hoping to interview and get hired on with Republic soon there after. Thinking about timing it like you said about a month/month in a half prior to when im available. We shall see

From my experience and friends at other airlines most have no problem with a little delay if you're finishing a degree. Give them a realistic date, and stick to it, so long as it's not too far in the future.

No reason to time it perfectly either...i.e. graduate on friday...and monday you start groundschool.

A few week break might not be too bad to clear your mind and get settled before you start training.
