KGMB released an update to the story they're investigating.

The NTSB also released a prelim a couple weeks ago.

I'm not sure how you fall asleep on a 45 minute flight at 1000 in the morning. I can understand that freaking early show in Toronto with the 40 minute ride from downtown followed by a 3.5 hour slog to Houston. But a 45 minute hop from Honolulu to Hilo? Must have been some serious partying in Waikiki the night before.

You just don't get it do you.

What if they got in at midnight the night before and the leg they fell asleep on was already the third flight of the day?

What does the length of the flight have to do with any of this?

Yep, we've got some ugly ones. Still undecided on the 900 with the 35th paint job

That plane is pretty ugly, looks unfinished. Would of been better in my opnion if they painted the entire plane.

Easy there turbo...didn't realize my comment was going to offend anyone personally. Yeesh!

Anywho...my point was that on a short flight you are usually busy enough to keep awake without too much trouble. I know that for me personally, regardless of how tired or awake I am, a long flight is more fatiguing than a short one where there is plenty to keep me busy. So going back to my example, if I am rolled out of bed at 4am East Coast time (I live in the Central time zone) and then strapped into an airplane for a looooong flight, that is much more fatiguing TO ME than if I had gotten up at the same time for 2 short hops over the same period of time. Maybe I'm the only one, but I doubt it.

I'm not sure why you're jumping on case here. If anything, I agree with you and every one else. Scheduling was probably doing them dirty (with Mesa, the probability of that is very high) leading to something like this.

Lenght of flight has everything to do with this. Can you imagine falling asleep on the twenty minute flight ORD-MKE or ORD-SBN? Most of the time you're asses and elbows up there. The more down-time you've got, the easier it is to go the way of Zzz's, no?

The point is, on their 45 minute minute flight - they should have been a bit too busy to fall asleep. They must have been exhausted...

viper548 03-16-2008 11:45 AM

Not to mention the sun would be in their eyes

LOL! WOW, somebody defending Orenstein, since you like Go! you must love GoJet.

It's comical how you guys wage war on SKW like a bunch of little school girls when we have no beef with you. Grow up, you're suppose be professionals.

That was my point though, that they could easily have been so tired that even a short flight would provide enough time to fall asleep.

45 minutes is enough time that there'd be some idle minutes in cruise.

Ya its pretty bad, I like to call it the "Mullet.” You know; party in the back, business in the front.

But it's not as bad as MAG Dash 8 with the purple engines or RAH's spare with the white body and faded blue vertical stab.

I happen to like our 35-year -900, thank you very much! :D

BTW, it was definately done by the same dude (or there must be some pending lawsuit!) as the Horizon Q4 - saw it there in YVR and for a second there, thought that it was our RJ LoL.

Overly defensive much?

You guys foam at the mouth for the opportunity to pounce on SKW. You should be more professional seeing we're all sailing the same seas, we're just on different ships. Some are sinking (MAG), some we want to sink (GoJet) and some are floating (XJT, SKW Inc, RAH, etc); but when it comes to pilots, anyway you cut it we’re all in it together.

The next time you see that POS, do me a favor an put it out of my misery, will ya?

That 25th Anniv. Q400 was one of two that we bought from China.

The operator over there reportedly had 100% dispatch reliability with them! How? Well, after we got them, we discovered that many of the leads behind the Caution/Warning Annunciator Panel HAD BEEN CUT! What red light?

I've done my share of CDOs, and the cumulative effect of more than 1 at a time is VERY pronounced. And I'm sure Go!'s CDO's are much worse than what I was doing...

Thank you for being able to take a joke, unlike some of your coworkers.
I happen to think that Colgan's generic scheme is the best out there:

I thought it was pretty funny. He's just making fun of a paint job, relax. Trust me, there's plenty of company iron floating around that looks like it was thrown together by a blind man in his sleep.

Postings often come off more heated than intended and at no point was I as worked up as it might have seemed. I understand and I did jump POPA a little quick, but in my defense there has been an abnormally high volume of SKW bashing lately with a lot of it coming from XJTr's (a good airline with a good pilot group).

I would just like to see less bashing and more helping, I respect all pilots (excludes GoJetr's).

Yeah, apparently the fact that our company is run well, everyone for the most part is happy, and we are non-union, means there MUST be something seriously wrong!!!

I guess I should feel guilty and repressed working for a company that manages to JUST WORK.

ExperimentalAB 03-16-2008 02:31 PM

Face it - ya'll are all over the bash-fest SkyWest threads. Maybe this post was just the one that broke a certain Camel's back ;)

I'm a pretty big fan of out Beer Can Bro's.

I like that this thread about the Mesa dba Go! flight in Hawaii has turned into an ugly duckling contest and a who-bashes-who more discussion.

Yeehaw! Aquafresh baby!!!:D

Seriously though...That Go! flight...bad deal...hope those guys make it through unscathed and place some blame squarely with how crews are scheduled and expected to change sleep patterns at a moments notice.

BEEFF 03-16-2008 03:21 PM

So back to the originally scheduled programming...

Did I hear the news report right? Does GO! now have 2 separate alleged incidents of both pilots falling asleep?

BankAngle09 03-16-2008 07:14 PM

wouldn't be suprised

No surprise - and JO's eyes are still closed.

determined2fly 03-17-2008 02:37 AM

There has been rumors going around that John Ornstein has been given his walking papers. Can anyone confirm this?

pokey9554 03-17-2008 02:58 AM

That is the rumor going around the office. We will all know for sure when the stock price goes up.
