ATL based folks- how's life?
My future wife and I are thinking about moving to ATL since my company has a base there and the job market is prime for what she does. We both live in MEM/are from MEM/families are both in MEM. We want OUT for at least a few years. I am concerned about delays and where some good places are outside ATL. We will be buying a house if we move but I will be on the lower end of the CA list so I am concerned with getting to work with a 90 min callout.
How is ATL from the pilot's perspective?

I live on the south end of town and love it here. Takes me 25-30 minutes to drive to the employee lot. Very little traffic, schools are pretty good, and plenty of shopping locations. If you want more specifics, just shoot me a PM (Jetcareers would be better, since I check that one more often).

I live in Buckhead (pretty pricey if you want to buy a house) which is just to the north of the city. I take the train to work since it's faster than driving to the lot and getting on the shuttle. I give myself 1hr15min and I'm usually 20 minutes early. The south side of town (Newnan) is pretty popular for married types. It's about 20-30 minutes from the airport. Not sure how the night life is there if you are concerned about that. If you do a google search on places to live in atlanta, you can get a real good idea of where NOT to live. You can PM me also.

Yeah, partayy!!! I don't live "IN" buckhead I live "kind of in" buckhead, near the 75/85 split. I live in a 2 bedroom apt. and it's 1195/mo, so I pay $600.
That's roughly half my income. Not too much left over for beer.

I too live in Vinings. I love it. I'm at the airport in 20-25 minutes no matter the time of day. I would suggest the western half of the city, whether north or south, because of lesser traffic (285 west. avoid downtown connector if you can). I pay $450 a month for a townhome with two good friends. Houses would be cheaper on the western side of the city. Plenty of nice areas. As mentioned Newnan would be affordable and Peachtree City is nice, but a little pricier. Tons of Delta and AirTran folks in PC.
