PSA Known Conditions -- Employement
Disclaimer.....I am not looking to start any sort of debate on this airline. I just would like some insight on operations and pay.....
So with that said here goes.... Does anyone out there have advice or information on PSA? I am looking to get a job with them in the near future. The website has the following posted: To be considered, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications: Commercial, Instrument and Multi-engine rating First Class Medical FCC License Valid Passport Does anyone know if this is true?? Also, what is the average time on reserve? Is there an opportunity to make more than just the $23 or $24 that most regionals start out at? If anyone has insight into this particular airline I would appreciate it. |
You don't have any prior-121, do you...Why the Maddog1974 handle?
All I can tell you about PSA is that pay-rates are fixed, just like any other airline. You're going to start out at first-year pay no matter what. And if you meet the posted-mins (comm. MEL), why not apply? Would they lie about their hiring mins ? Keep in mind that with 300 hours you won't be very competitive. |
What's goin on with PSA these days? I sent my resume in like 3 weeks ago with 650/100 and still haven't heard anything, meanwhile they're saying they have basically no minimums...

You can earn more if you work in the training dept. Sim instructors get 5th year capt pay from what i understand.
Don't know if we are going to be hiring any more. Things have slowed down. Plus with ATA, Skybus... closing up there are a bunch of very qualified pilots out there. I would expect them to be taking instructor jobs. Well PSA would be smart to hire them. Go get your CFI and build up some time until you can qualify for a job. |
Those mins are correct. They will consider you for the job, but you will need to have atleast 600-700 hours to be competitive. And with 600-700 hours you will need someone to reffer you to be able to get an interview. And even with that it will take a couple of weeks to get an e-mail. But we have went from two classes a month to one. Due to the lack of Sim time was what I was told. Its a good place to work it has its ups and down like everywhere else. Good luck.

I walked in a friend's resume a couple weeks ago and they have not heard back. They are really slowing down the hiring as of right now. I was told by Lisa that they would have one more interview date but not sure of when that will be. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

they stopped hiring until june i had an interview for today but it got cancelled about two weeks ago... i was being recommended by the chief pilot too and he called me to let me know this information... its a bummer :(

My class has had a month off between ground school and sims, I really think they're trying to clear out the sims so they don't pay us to take a vacation. Of course they might just be slowing because the market seems unstable and everyone else is slowing hiring. The company has been fair to everyone I know, so far no complaints.

I have heard that some class dates have been pushed back but others have not.... this is definitely interesting.

My dues...
I appreciate all the comments here. I will be finishing a multi-engine program in the next month or so and have been curious about PSA. They have a base in CLT and this is just up the road from home. It would be much easier to have my family stay where they are and me commute from CLT. That's only if I am able to get a job once finishing my program, otherwise i will probably just try to find a job instructing locally
Again, not trying to start a debate about low time pilots and 3 month zero to hero with jet certification jumping into regional seats. I am just trying to make a living doing something I love. A thought about those thinking about making a comment about my posts...I am 33, I have never made more than $35,000 a year, we have made it this far with this little doing things we/I hate. I will work as a pilot for 15,000-25,000 a year for my first two or three years if I have to because in this time, in this market, this is how i will pay my dues...and if i do not get a job at a regional then i will pay my dues and earn my time by instructing, forest patrol, whatever it takes and i will deliver pizzas or dig ditches to get to that next pilot position. 123bt will taxi to the active and hold short.....Waiting for release! |
To answer a few more of your questions... Yeah we have a CLT base but its a couple month wait to get it the same with reserve, i spent two months on reserve but im sure with the slowing in hiring the wait will increase, but we are upgrading still quite a bit so once youre in things are moving along

I walked in a resume to director of training last week. The scoop is that theyre trying to get a few more captains upgraded and so ground school has slowed a little bit meaning there are already currently enough hired and the next interview date would likely be around the end of may or so. He said my friend would def. be interviewed and that he would get a call as soon as they had a date set for the next interviews. I think the current competitive mins are something like 600/100 or somewhere around there. I was hired in November with right under 1000 tt and 12 multi. Pay is what it is, currently for me starting class in December and still currently on reserve with 8 people ahead of me till I hold a line. Im sure now with the slowing of hiring, reserve will only be longer.

Appreciate the info ksatflyer...I don't mind sitting reserve, again paying my dues in some form or another. I just think that, like you said, with everything slowing down right now that I would be lucky to even get an interview much less a job.
Thanks again |
