Lateral Move to Skywest?
 

Am I crazy for considering this with the way the industry is looking? I've already been hired, but I'm not sure if I should start over again or not. I would love to fly the Brasilia and have been trying to get back west, but I can't decide either way. Suggestions??

If your cashing the quick upgrade it's over. It's a good place to work, however, if you come know you'll be on reserve for 6 months or more.

I think it would help people analyze your situation if they knew where you currently were. If it is Mesa or something, I think everyone would say "move". If it were another I am not sure - depends where you are making the lateral move from.

Where do you live?
Where do you want to live?
Where are you at right now?
How long have you been there?
What are your overall career goals?

If you answer these questions, we can give you some good advice.

If so, i know i told him i'd go, but that was before hiring really slowed down. Hopefully, skywest would be a good place to be, even if you're towards the bottom, and because it gets you back where you ultimately want to be in life, i'd say it's not as much a lateral move, as opposed to someone just "company A > company B" type of move, which as far as i've always been concerned, is a joke....

I'm currently at TSA, based in RIC and approaching the 1 year mark. Not looking for a quick upgrade, just want to be back in the Western U.S. closer to family and friends, and preferably while living in domicile.

Otter - Are you talking specifically about the EMB? I know that the reserve times on the RJ are long, but you think they would really be 6 months in the Bro? Even at a more junior domicile?

Don't do it! You will be off probation soon and will also get a raise. I wouldn't want to start all over again, go though training and make peanuts again for another year. Also, I wouldn't want to be at the bottom of the seniority list right now just the way the industry is going. My advice is to suck it up and stay at TSA and get your regional flying done, and you can always go back West and work for a major later down the road.

In only my opinion (while sitting in the right seat at a regional with many problems) I would NOT want a lateral move to be on the bottom of a list with the economy in question with $110/brl oil.

Its at $112.21 just thought everyone should know that. I think in the current state of the industry we need a Smiley Icon that is jumping off a bridge.

Seriously I would stay put and start to commute if you really want to love back on the west coast. Being anywhere near the bottom is scarry enough let alone being at the bottom.

I have to agree with the advice of others. Stay put. The music is coming to a stop. Who knows what is going to happen the next year. The management guys here say 2009 will still be tough. I would let the dust settle and see who is feeding for who before I make a move.

It sucks though I know, not being were you want to be. I am from the south and still live in the "Mistake by the Lake" (Cleveland) due to my initial assignment with my regional.

I left my regional to go to a LCC and that made me nervous in late 2004. This just isn't the time for a move like that. My opinion.
