CAL to rebid all XJT run ground stations

The word on the street that came out yesterday is that Continental is rebidding all XJT ground ops looking in favor of lower costs and a new handler....

CAL all ready rebid 5 stations in Louisiana last month that were awarded to Eagle worth $8 million instead of XJT....

I guess the beating XJT is taking from CAL will continue.....

CAL guys....any more info on this?

RiddleEagle18 04-11-2008 01:13 PM

probably true because the comair president said in his web conference that comair was awarded ground handling for CAL express in a few stations.

Is ground handling a significant source of revenue for ExpressJet?

This will be great for on time performance and fuel savings. Kind of like the ICT station. They work the AA/AE flights first while we sit there with #2 running waiting to get marshalled in. I wonder how much money that saves.

Unfortunate for the loyal XJT workers. Another blow XJT takes from CAL.

Not really, I don't have the exact figures, but is less than 5%. Everyone's in the process of taking a beating. It's funny how some folks think their company is impervious to the current forces driving the market.

I believe so. I know that it is a significant source of income for the ground worker's family. :(

Another significant source of money is Kellner's $7M / year. 350x more than a XJT FO.

Bitter? Nah...

molson247 04-11-2008 01:21 PM

In Louisiana, it was approx 2 million dollars per year, per station that XJT lost. Do the math, if they lose all, it will be a significant decrease in revenue.

I agree that it's unfortunate. ExpressJet is full of terrific people.

Skywest is facing a similar plight with our "east" stations ground handing being taken over by others.

I wonder if comair is going to continue to pick up more ground handling...didn't Comair get UA ground ops in places like Kalamazoo? (or was that the CAL)
