What kind of flowback protection do Mesaba and Compass have from NWA? There will definately be furloughs, espicially with the -9s leaving.

My understanding... Mesaba has flowed perhaps as many as 12. There are 12 spots open at Mesaba for flow backs. Compass clears out the entire pilot group, one for one, so that mainline can flowback.
It is the downside of having the first 20 spots each month in a flow-up. Personally I don't know how a company that small could sustain losing 20 of its most senior pilots per month if the flow was in full swing. While it would save money on the payroll scale it would be deadly expensive to do all that training to backfill the spots of the pilots who flowed up. On that note, doubly expensive to train up front off the street, then furlough to make way for backflowing mainline guys. Seems like something wasn't thought out here completely. There are rumors of negotiation of the Compass flow agreement already floating about. |
the thing about Compass' flow through is that it can't happen for 30 months (from the start of Compass' operation last summer/fall). so their most senior folks won't be going anywhere for at least another 20 months or so.

I wish the best for all of the pilots on both sides....good luck.
