thanxs for the input guys...any idea on the cost of living in Puerto Rico? Will I need to get a second job? How long would you be on reserve for? Luckily I know how to surf a little bit...just need to learn spanish. Big part of the reason I want to move there is for the surfing and different aspect of life and of course flying!! Do you think this would be a good career move flying the ATR or would it be better flying the EMJ or CRJ? Also, how come the overnights suck? What's wrong with them? Sorry for the questions...but being from England, all this info. is very helpful!! Plus, apart from just these specifics (and I'm sure this has been covered in some other discussions), but is AE a good choice or not for a 900/90 pilot like myself?

Most of the ATR overnights are short (8-10hrs) so they suck for that reason. I would definitely go for the ATR first, then transfer to the jet if you want after a year. 1st year pay is the same no matter what a/c you are in. Reserve in SJU is very short 1-3months tops and they are short staffed. They will guarantee you your base when you go for an interview, just tell them where you want to go.

thanx for the replies guys...as far as the places you travel to, do you do a lot of carribbean flying? why do the overnights suck like somebody mentioned earlier. also, do a lot of people in Puerto Rico speak english?

A lot of people in PR know english... but they chose not to use it very often. If you just learn a few basic phrases to show you are trying then thats all you need. Just know "cervesa por favor" and that will get you far!

I was in San Juan a few days ago, and I don't think a lot of people speak/know Enlgish-at least that's the feeling I have.

I was in PR in the late 90's when I was in the service. Is the Black Angus still in business in San Juan? A lot of my fellow sailors enjoyed that establishment. LOL.

Anyone ever eat at those little shacks that have the open pit grills on the side of the road outside of the city? I bet it is good eating. I was upset that the tour bus wouldn't stop so we could get a taste.
