Frontier withdraws from R
Frontier cancelled their contract with Republic today. We are going to start withdrawing planes immediately and all 12 planes are to be absorbed by other bases or sold (overseas). So the DEN base future is no longer in question it appears. Overall, a sad day for those of us waiting to get Denver.

Even more sad for the new hire 170 fo's who were let go today. My prayers are with you guys.

I saw the notation on the press release about selling the aircraft. If I were a betting man I cant see BB letting any of his precious 170s go. I would be he would try to strike a deal with some of the codeshares to remove the smaller aircraft from service on say a 2 for 3 deal ( dump three 145's for 2 170's ) .... now the five not delivered yet.... those he might sell....
p.s. just spoke with someone in STL who said they were under the impression they had been placed into the hiring pool.... but that was just one guys take on it. |

Frontier Airlines ends jet service to five cities
DENVER (AP) - Frontier Airlines Holdings and Republic Airways say they've ended a code-sharing agreement, which means the Denver-based carrier will end service to five cities.
Frontier Airlines will gradually eliminate 12 Republic aircraft from its operations by mid-June, and says it will reallocate some aircraft to serve more markets with the potential for long-term profitability. Service will end by June 1st to Sioux City, Iowa; Jacksonville, Florida; Little Rock, Arkansas; Memphis, Tennessee and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The carrier is also canceling plans to start service to Missoula, Montana. Republic says it will file a 260-million-dollar damage claim due to the early termination of the Frontier deal, but says a bankruptcy court will decide how much it can recover. Frontier is reorganizing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. |
I thought republic was still hurting for people. Did they stop hiring?

not any good to hear, don't think the 260 million claim is going to help frontier much either, hopefully republic can find work for the other planes so the pilots can keep their jobs, as that'd be about 120 pilots who need to be spread over the company.

I hope they recoup some of their losses, and to the pilots that got cancelled , I wish you all the best and a speedy solution to your situation. Unfortunately, all the regional's are at the mercy of the legacy carriers when the economy is in it's current condition. This is when you start seeing cut throat actions that you would never expect from regional carriers to stave off the current state of affairs. |
