Yes, that's correct. That's why J.A. wants it out, it's a deal breaker.

and thats the reason I don't know why xjt pilots are so against it. You already know what will happen if there isn't a buyout, Cal made that clear.

yea just the like 69 airplanes, you don't see CAL with those airplanes do you? They should of learned their lesson the first time. I find it very interesting that they are in a hurry to get this done, may just be becuase we could find a home for those 51 airplanes, or even the branded airplanes. We will see what happens if MESA truly falls apart. Larry got caught making a big mistake before, lets hope this doesn't bite him in the ass once again

Well Slap, guys negotiated the contract for a reason. They wanted job protection, and that's not guaranteed with the SkyWest buyout. Accepting it or denying it are both a role of the dice. J.A. knows he can't get what he wants(whipsawing) as long as the clause remains in the contract. If the ExpressJet BOD(not the union or the pilot group) accepts another offer, then the ExpressJet MEC will be approached to negotiate something. It is their job to do what is in the best interest of the pilots, not managment. There's no guarantee that they won't find homes for those airplanes if CAL pulls them, but there is no guarantee that they will. I have no dog in the fight, but I have a lot of friends at ExpressJet. I wish them all the best.

Mesa only has about 60 or so 50 seaters left, and UAL and USAIR will not replace all of them once they are gone. You will also have to compete with Skywest and trasnstates for ual 50 seat flying and ual has already been slowing replacing mesa with those two airlines. At best xjt can hope for is one of those 2 week deals to cover flying until an airline with 70 or 90 seaters can come in and replace mesa. I wouldn't bet your future on the chance that mesa will go under and the chance that those airlines will replace ALL their Mesa 50 seaters with xjt. Either way its only about 60 airplanes and from what I understand cal has said they will pull all 205. Put your egos aside and listen to what JA has to offer, its the best thing for everyone.

wow, one of the few posts by you, that is actually a good one :) Like I said this may very be a very good deal for the XJT guys, compared to what we have now, as long as we are not whipsawed or slowly broken down,or downsized.

Nobody said our MEC would not listen to JA, but first our BOD has to accept an offer our MEC has not been approached by anyone yet

Not to sound like an ass...but I don't think that the 69 airplanes taught CAL anything. I think it taught the rest of the regional industry what we should have already known...there is no money in 50 seat branded flying!

It was a huge slap in the face to CAL, why do you think they hate JR & Co. Do you have nay diea how much money us keeping the airplanes has cost them? Cal is not doing as well financially as some may think

flyboyzz1 04-28-2008 07:50 AM

alright i guess your right but was it that much better of an idea to keep the planes and (to this point) lose big time?

Saab, its hard to predict this. SkyWest worked slowly to break us (ASA) down for a while. There are a lot of CR2's and CR7's out in SLC that used to be ours, along with broken promises of CR9's that started off with ASA stickers and reg's. Fortunately this has stopped, but the scope in our new contract, in my opinion, is very weak and it still can allow SkyWest to absorb a lot of our airplanes.

The benefit to XJT, however, is that SkyWest probably does not want to incur the costs of absorbing a new aircraft, and it will be beneficial for them to leave all of it with XJT.
