Regional Commute
 

Is there such as thing as a commutable regional job. It sounds to me like there isn't. Someone enlighten me....Please give specfic regionals

just seems to depend who you work for, and how senior you are. I know some eagle guys who commute, and some expressjet guys that live in arizona that are based out of EWR. I know pilots for a lot of different regionals, and those are the only ones where I know somebody that commutes.

I know many folks that commute. I currently commute from SLC to ORD as a Captain on the RJ, i am about 2/3 of the way down the seniority list and have managed to hold 4 day trips with weekends off. I catch an afternoon flight from SLC to ORD monday, start flying early tuesday morning and then fly home friday evening after my trip ends.. Lots of us do it, but it isn't my first choice.. living in domicile makes for much better quality of life.

Lot of factors, but the key in my opinion is to have three daily non-stops on your own line (own company or major partner). Or lots of non-stops on whoever. Given that, the actual distance is not so much of an issue. Or if you're close enough to drive in a real pinch (I have a 6 hour drive).

I've commuted to three different domiciles and can tell you that it is definitely doable. Being in a part 121 operation opens the doors to jumpseating on pretty much any other 121 operator. Typically you also have jumpseat/pass priority on your own carrier but each operation has it's own contractual rules.
