AE - Bidding for the ORD ERJs

Hey,

I'm a new hire in the AE May 26 class. I selected ORD for my base in the hopes of getting the ERJ, as I hear QOL is better than on the CRJ. However, I turned 21 about 2 months ago and I have a feeling I'll be the least senior in the class. I also heard that the least senior guys get the CRJ if no one requests it.

So 2 questions. Is the QOL for CRJ FOs really that bad compared to the ERJ?

2. Does the BOS - ORD switch work for guaranteeing the ERJ?

Thanks!

I highly doubt you'll get the CRJ. If you go to chicago they'll put you in the ERJ.

From what I've heard the CRJ7 goes the most senior. Nicer airplane than the ERJ but only a few destinations and long reserve.

I'd do the BOS swap. It will work fine. ORD has dozens of openings so as soon as you ask to switch to it, you'll get it.

The CRJ is more like the XNA shuttle. Add in about 8 other destinations and that's all you do. EVER. Also, ORD in the CRJ has very few lines. For example, a buddy with roughly 3 years seniority on the CRJ could barely hold a line, then switched to DFW where he can easily hold a line with weekends off.

If I were you and knowing what I know now, I would without a doubt ask for BOS or LGA and get the ERJ for certain and switch later.

when I was at eagle this was the exact situation. 20 guys had ORD and the bottom four were stuck with the CRJ7. No one wanted to touch it with a ten foot pole. Great airplane. Crap trips. Crap schedule. Endless RSV (guys who were in my newhire class of May 07 are just seeing a line, a crap line). I could fit all the airports the RJ went into one small trip book and that was ORD and DFW routes combined. While on RSV they don't use you too much but you can expect to sit ready at the airport for 8 hours at least 2-3 times a week. Thats ONLY if you don't get stuck with an entire months ready schedule. Nothing like going to the airport for a 6am-1pm sit and KNOW you will never do anything more than sit. In short if you can't be sure you will get the ERJ in ORD I would bid BOS and deal with a commute. At least then you know an end is in sight, if you get the CRJ you will have to deal with it until you upgrade or the CRJ goes away.

At age 21 your only chance to get EMJ ORD is if senior guys get all CRJ positions. You will get the leftover !!!!
If you really want EMJ, you better bid for BOS or LGA.

I would like to also add that if you do get stuck on the CRJ your attitude will be much different than if you get the ERJ...which isn't saying much but it's better than nothing!

Rumors are that the CRJs are all going to DFW. There are no vacancies for it at ORD so I would be shocked if anyone is assigned it as a newhire since they may have to displace you to the ERJ before training is even over

Not just a rumor. A buddy of mine who's an ORD CR7 FO is heading to training on the EMB because ORD is closing as a CR7 base.
