Flight cases
Hey guys.
Was wondering what are some good flight cases out there for a good price? Not to familiar with who makes what and if its any good, so I figure I'd ask before spending the money, since I guess they are not the cheapest. I'm looking for one that is durable, looks good, and will just last me a long time without breaking down and cracking or w/e. I see older guys sometimes walking around the airport with flight cases that look like they have had since they started flying, but are still in good shape. Thanks for any info/suggestions! :D |
I've had this one for almost a year now and it still looks pretty new:
http://www.officemax.com/omax/catalo...skuId=21059220 No complaints, It came with some dividers in it but I just cut those out. |
I always say that you get what you pay for. If you plan on making a career I would invest in a good flight bag.
I personally like the one from Coyote Works with the metal plate on the bottom. Get the saddle bag with the straps that go around the bottom. It is a little stronger that the one with the handle on the top flap. It's the one that I have. It's a little expensive, but it will last for a long time. It's the kind of flight case that I plan to have for the better part of my career. http://coyoteworks.net/Flight_Cases.php good luck... |
I have one I'll be selling at the end of this bid:
B 777 sticker Gold's Gym name tag Extra pockets for hair gel, axe and breath mints and the most important "HEAVY" sticker... |
Do a search please... covered numerous times

$30 from harbor freight. I've been using it a year and its still going strong. Our company requires black flight cases, so I just got a can of spray paint and sprayed it. It looked really good in the beginning, but now it's all scuffed up. It is really only noticeable when your up close, and it looks a lot better than some of those ancient flight cases I've seen being pulled around. p.s. - I'm using it in an ERJ |
Not sure of a really good one, but stay away from the jepp flight case, Ive had it now since December, Im on reserve, and its already falling apart. So, I normally Id agree with "you get what you pay for" is incorrect in reference to the Jepp case.

if you can find the samsonite one, get it. its $60 and its solid. ive had mine for 2 years, and i just ran into someone who has had his for 7 years. good luck finding one though, they may have stopped making them?

I just bought a leather luggage works one today... hope it works out as well as advertised.

I did the Harbor Frieght tool kit for a while.
I had it for about a year and I think that is about all you will get out of it. I found that no matter how hard I tried to treat it, I still threw it around, kicked it off/on the airplane. All the dents at first were a badge of honer. Then one day really was no surprise, I had to band the bottom with duct tape. 2 more months went by, then got dinged by the flight manager for not have a black bag. that was about the icing on the cake for me, I was fed up. it was not big enough to hold the charts and manuals we have at TSA. I could not imangine it would come close to working for anyone that flies to any more airports than we do. Some of you guys/gals out there have a bunch of jepp charts. what I have done now, I went to ebay and bought a leather flight case for about 60 bucks or so, and it is was new, and it was not of the highest quality either. but for another 20 bucks I took it to a leather smith, and she sewed on two 2inch leather straps around it it make it like a scott leather bag. The leather saddle craddle seems to be working well. there is also someone on ebay that selling black leather jep case with four jep binders for 190 dollars. I do not know anyone with the jep case, so I cannot say how well it holds up. If buy chance you are looking for some good cheap shoes that work. I suggest plain black justin ropers. you can find them at any Rual King, or farm supply store for about 40 bucks. Had those now for a year and half, and they are great. Drawback is the metal shanks, but you can also take them to a shoe repair store and have them remvoed and replaced with wood or cork. I just take mine off. reeves |
My Leather luggage works one with the gold locks is a piece of doodoo. It's this one
http://www.crewoutfitters.com/browse...44-85-75-72-44 I've had it for less than 6 months, and the entire bottom is separated out of it. I've treated it with decent care, there's no obvious reason for it to be doing this (i didn't drop it from FL350) I'm not sure if i got a bad one, adn LW is being cool about replacing it (i have to pay for shipping on the loner) but it's still frustrating as hell to pay $219 on a product that's already falling apart. I'm gonna lose all my stickers :( |

Hope it was just a lemon.. I got the one for 180 with brushed nickel. I know it's not gold, but I bought a 26" stealth and the handle is silver so I figured luggage should match before I match my luggage.
I know a lot of people with the flight case you have, they like it..and it seems to hold up better than mine did. |

i'm not sure the 26 incher is giong to fit in the CRJ crew luggage storage thing. Double check it, but you may have to permanently gate check it. I'm almost positive mine is 22"..And that's already nearly impossible to fit.

I dont know anything about this either, but I have heard many say if it has the telescoping handle bars on there it will not fit in most cubby holes.

With the amount of money we throw down on uniforms and luggage, I just wasn't ready to drop $200-300 for a good lasting flight case, but now with second year pay, I think I'm about ready. |
the 26" bag wont fit in the crj crew bag storage, mine is the 22" and barely fits.

Jepp = meh
$200 and three of six metal skid bumps gone and the remaining three loose. The locks appear to be on the verge of failure, and no internal pocket on the flap.
But, it fits perfectly in the CRJ and you can sticker it up.

I have a Platt catalogue case w/o the wheels. Aluminum frame, built well, about $100. I abuse it and it still looks good.
Fifth one down: http://www.customcases.com/platt/attache_catalog.htm |

Scotts Saddle Company. The best flight cases period. I have had mine for 4+ years. Looks good and last long time.
