Four engines is good redundancy at a hot DZ or airstrip, but is wasted weight and complexity on most airliners. Also, tactical lifters have to handle tactical landings and manuevers, which means that they carry extra structural weight.
I'm not sure if the C-130 is FAA certified for pax? |

Who cares... it is still 53 years after it was first produced.. and STILL in current J model delivery.... the greatest turboprop aircraft EVER built. :)
When I flew corporate, one of the company owners was once an Air Force pilot. I begged him to get a Herc, my pitch was he could drive his SUV on, and then off at the destinations, no messing with car rentals. Funny, he never thought I was serious :D |
It wouldn't be a C-130 it would be a L100.

Actually....my type rating says L-382....:)

No, it's 274 now because of the Abijian crash.
Yeah, I know. I was going to throw that in my original post as a joke because the guy posted that "CAL's scope is restricted to 274" but decided to go a little more subtle. |
