PSA Furloughing

Since the other thread got deleted, I'll start a new one... We got an email yesterday, PSA will be furloughing 27 first officers. Haven't gotten the certified letter yet, but they didn't say thrity-ish or something so the writing is on the wall for me and others. Guess it's time to update my resume. In case I go absolutely crazy and decided to apply to another airline so I can get furloughed twice in one year...who's still hiring?

Who's still hiring

Skywest, Comair, and Colgan are the only ones I know that are still hiring.

gintasr 06-13-2008 08:16 AM

Good thing I just quit PSA.

flynavyj 06-13-2008 08:24 AM

sorry to hear blue, had a feeling it was coming over there as well. How long have you been online now? Hopefully, long enough to get some experience to make yourself marketable again in this crapola of an industry.

Darn sorry to hear it. Just a few classes separating me from that fate... Are you sure you are "affected" -did you get the call from CP?

trackpilot 06-13-2008 12:18 PM

What i'd like to know is why was the seniority list showing 580 some pilots but now only shows 554 pilots? Did they already drop the 27 from the list or ???

Yeah so now you can be at the very bottom of Comair's seniority list. Not sure if that's a good move or not...

It's a risk I'm willing to take. Big F will hit everywhere, just a matter of time. If I do get F-ed I'll be changing careers.

Thanks, no problem....your woman told me your fate for tomorrow, so no hurt feelings. If there's any help i can lend out, just ask...unfortunately, my company isn't hiring right now either...and odds are, if you'd come here b4, you'd be in the same situation that's facing you now....best of luck bud, keep me posted.

bradeku1008 06-13-2008 01:48 PM

I think in the thread that got closed they said it was only going to be for 2 months. Can anybody confirm that?

ExperimentalAB 06-13-2008 02:08 PM

I think it said at least two months??

Agreed. They told one of the guys AT LEAST 2 months and they'd like to have everyone recalled in 6 at the latest... I'm not holding my breath...

HAPF 06-13-2008 07:04 PM

Does anyone know if the 27 to be furloughed takes into account the number of people who requested to take voluntary leave of absence? ie...if it does then there must have originally been more then 27 to be furloughed, if it doesnt, then there will be less furloughed once they announce the voluntary loa's. Also, there should be no one denied a voluntary loa who requested one....Any thoughts?

Well, I would say it doesn't include any LOA's since actually if you count up for the bottom of the master senority list they actually got 28 guys, we're not sure why. I know probably 75% of those guys and girls, I actually didn't end up as bad as some as I hadn't completed my move into base... but other guys I know moved all their **** here only to get furloughed.... that sucks

Just like lthey told me I would be in a May class and have a line within 2 months. . . Then June . . . Then September . . . Then pooled . . . now this.I wouldn't believe a thing that they say . . .

jumperdumper 06-14-2008 10:11 AM

This industry certainly is a crapshoot isn't it?

I guess I am just a sucker for punishment!

Im in the same seat. Was going May 11th...then June 2nd...then in a pool and told it may be until September. I have also heard that companies will start hiring once the furloghing is done. I dont know how true that is but it gave me some hope. Im going back to do the CFI thing until I get a call back.

Why would they start hiring after they just furloughed?

Blueskies21 06-22-2008 06:50 PM

hate to break it to you Brad but they have to recall all the furloughs before they can hire.. at least at PSA. I'd heard they were planning on resuming hiring in september too but that was before they furloughed us all..so now I guess we're hoping they recall us in september and keep hiring to prevent a reoccurence... keep at instructing... you get to learn lots... I guess I'm going back to it for awhile... I've still got lots to learn so that's fine

bradeku1008 06-22-2008 07:29 PM

Blueskies.. Were you a Dayton Base?
