I'd rather see the pilots pushing for this sign their names.

It will...never bite the hand that feeds you.

I am not in favor of denying anyone the jumpseat, ever. HOWEVER: I myself have been personally bumped out of the jumpseat by a UAL mainline pilot on MY OWN AIRLINE. I could not get past the gate agent, and the UAL pilot pretty much told me to pound sand when I explained the situation to him. I couldn't get ahold of the captain in time to make a difference. This is not in accordance with our FOM. So, this issue needs to be fixed, no matter what the cost. I do not like it, but I will support it. Unfortunately, I think the situation has reached a point where it will not be fixed through other methods. I hope this gets resolved in the next 30 days. Seriously, how hard is it to change a couple lines of code in the software! As a previous software developer, my guess it could be done in less than a day.

Do you think he'll really care why he won't make it? How's UAL going to see it when flights get canceled because they can't staff them? Is that the kind of reputation you want? You don't bite the hand that feeds you. Write them a letter asking them to fix it but don't start keeping crews from their planes. UAL is hurting and this is a HORRIBLE idea for anyone with any kind of foresight. If I'm there and a CA denies a UAL guy the jumpseat because of this then I'll ask him to reconsider. Twice if I have to. He he doesn't then I'll walk off the airplane right then and there. YOU DON'T GO AGAINST YOUR MAINLINE EVER.

TD, please………………………………………………………………..?

Although I don’t entirely agree with the letter, I will gladly use my authority to properly correct the error that UAL has created. I will never deny a UAL pilot the jumpseat (if he/she is the sole JSer) unless the proper priority isn’t being followed when it comes to others.

Yes this could get ugly and I truly hope UAL rectifies the problem soon but the thought of a GoJeter (yes a GoJeter has priority over a SKW pilot on a SKW a/c according to the UAL system) bumping me or any other SKW pilot off of our own a/c infuriates me to no end and will never happen as long as I have a say.

Remember that SKW controls THE LARGE majority of UAX departure nationwide and I hope that our CA’s use their better judgment when it comes to this decision……………………….never deny just control.

This seems highly suspect, I'm going to wait to see the letter released from the respective MEC's as an update via code-a-phone or web site post at alpa.org.

an even better idea is what jetjock said. instead of sending out a blanket statement to deny all ual guys the jumpseat they should have put out a memo to all captains to check and make sure that the jumpseat is being given out in proper procedure. i know when ever i fly around i am the one getting all the things done in the plane while the captain does the release and books. so while he is at the gate getting the release and weather in order i am sure it wouldn't be that hard to also see who is there for the jumpseat and to make sure it is done correctly.

exactly jetjock. i think all the connection guys should have come up with a better plan then just denying the jumpseat to all ual guys.

Not sure about other carriers, but every SKYW pilot received this letter today from our JSC. As we don't have an MEC, this is probably the closest to "official" communication we have. Haven't seen an update from our SAPA president yet though.

one more question for you guys. it says on 8/31/08. is it a one day deal, or is it from that day on till it gets fixed.

It said “beginning on” so that would be the start date with the end date being when UAL agrees to the corrections.
