FCC License
Mesa requires a FCC license for the interview. There are so many to choose from online. Does anyone know which one it is?

That's the right website, I got mine a couple of days ago in the mail. It cost about $55 if I remember correctly. It was mailed to me within a couple of weeks.
|
Someone should call the FCC and tell them they have failed in Commuincating what license works for what. Everyone I know has had a hard time finding the right one.
|
thank god for this website! I was aimlessly looking through the FCC's website and then decided to look here, thanks a bunch HSLD.
|
Took me about 3 hours spread over two days to figure out which one it was, a horrible website.
|
Got mine a few weeks ago...cost $60 now...and had it in hand within a week. What a rip off though...60 bucks for a friggin piece of paper. Oh, and just for laughs...you get two copies...one to carry with you...and one "for framing"...
Be proud! |
If i remember correctly, its 2 letter id is RR
|
Those of you that have them, did you laminate them, or just fold them....I got mine in the mail today......(filled it out online and paid online, got in the mail about 4 days later).......
|
What a waste...
|
I laminated the one that folds, just to make sure I don't spill anything on it. God forbid I should spill coffee on one, lose the other, and have to waste another 60 bucks. Make sure you frame the other one...since you studied soooo hard for it. :)

AWAC requirements
It doesn't say it's necessary on AWAC's or Piedmont's job sites, but does anyone know if either airline wants applicants to have an FCC license or if it would help to have one when you apply? Just curious. Thanks for any input.
|
I am sure this isn't something that the company will pay for, or reimburse. Maybe a write off though.
|
What exactly is the purpose of this license?
|
ANYTHING related to flying is a tax write-off if you are a professional pilot (or trying to get job, or training for ratings)
The FCC permit is required for international flying, including Mexico, so that's why some regionals require it. |
rickair,
Thanks for the tax tip. I'll be sure to ping you for tax season. V/R, Apollo |
The day I got the FCC permit, I was suddenly able to talk clearly on the radio and I never missed a call again. THANKS FCC!!!!!

Damn that website sucks! Why dont they just list the licenses by profession. "Example: Click here if you are a pilot!!" What a waste of time! In addition, $60 is theft for this sheet of paper.

Blastboy,
If they eliminated the red tape they wouldn't be a government agency. How would their officials be able to look into the eyes of their contemporaries at the FAA, National Park Service, etc? Boy, imagine if the government spent some time streamlining things and getting rid of beaurocacy how many BILLIONS of dollars this government would save every year... |
blast, i was thinking the same damn thing, whom ever designed that website needs to be FIRED.
|
Here is my question:
I was attempting to try to find the regulation that requires you to actually HAVE one. I can;t find it :( My technique was using the index in ASA's FAR/AIM book, and using the search function on the FAA's website. I am begining to think it is not an FAR, but an FCC regulation. |
Yep, it's an FCC regulation. I believe it's 47CFR87.18.
From the FCC website: RESTRICTED OPERATOR PERMIT At least one person on each aircraft flying or communicating internationally must have a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit. This requirement is in addition to the requirement to have an aircraft radio station license for the aircraft. No Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit is required to operator VHF radio equipment on board an aircraft when that aircraft is flown domestically. You may obtain a Restricted Permit using FCC Form 605. No test is required to obtain this permit. The FCC will mail the permit to you and it will be valid for your lifetime. The fee for a Restricted Permit is in addition to any fee paid for an aircraft license.
|
If you cannot figure out where to go on the FCC website, just call them during business hours and they will talk you through how to get to the right place. I had to find out the hard way that it is way too easy to order the wrong one, then they didn't even refund the entire cost of it!!!! The people on the phone are extremely helpful though.
