Mesa is hiring and not furloughing. Job fair in Chicago on 9-2, I believe.

Hey Bruce, where did you get based ?

Sorry to hear that you turned down SKW. You're missing out on FAT !!! Should Mesa go belly up within the year, that's really all you have to loose, I guess.

I'm in upgrade training now on the EMB-120. I hope the dash doesn't have even half as many knobs, buttons and switches as this thing !

By the way, if SKW had hired you into the July 7 class, it was canceled on July 3. Mine (miraculously) was not. But I'm told that we're the last upgrade class for quite a while.

Wait, so the July 7 new hire class was cancelled?

"Hey Bruce, where did you get based ?"

Hi Tony:

SKW contacted me with a May E120 class date when I was in ground school for Mesa.

I was assigned to DEN for one bid period, then moved to PHX at the end of June. I am on reserve, but Mesa has approved 12 hour call-out. I sit in San Diego unless they need me to fly. It is working out really well, they plan ahead more with long call. I have already been given two 4 day trips, the first starts tomorrow. So far it looks like I will be able to get by without a PHX crashpad. There are 8-10 pilots coming along behind me in seniority at PHX, so I should hold a line once they are done with IOE.

I begin upgrade training on September 3. It is a pretty scary thought, but a couple of wise airline vets told me never to pass up an upgrade opportunity. All I can do is study my butt off in the meantime and try my best to rise to the occasion.

Choosing an airline, if you are lucky enough to have a choice, is a roll of the dice. For me it came down to;
  1. The easiest possible commute to SAN. (It seemed like years before I would hold SAN with SKW).
  2. I really wanted to fly the Dash.
  3. Upgrades and improvements in seniority seemed as if they would happen more quickly with Mesa.
So far it has been a blast. I am impressed by the skill and professionalism of everyone I have flown with. The Dash community is close-knit and the flying is some of the coolest in the airline industry.

Take Care,

At the risk of hijacking this thread into a Mesa bash-out...I'm pretty sure your the first Mesa employee I've ever heard on here that sounds genuinely happy with your job, even with you commuting to reserve! Hope they're treating you better than some of the horror stories I've heard your co-workers describe.

So far, not bad. A good friend of mine who has been here 4-5 years has the theory that things are tough at all regionals, with some relatively minor differences.

I have heard horror stories from all kinds of companies, including the so-called "good regionals".
