Hey yall...you want some piedmont news from someone who actually works there...not someone who is bitter about not getting hired or failing the test...ill take any question...i am also a union rep for f/o's...for those of you still in the hiring pool i would be glad to help with anything else relating to ground school.

Laxrox43 01-11-2009 10:02 AM

What's their projected hiring for '09? Any chance in heck on getting on this year? Looking to go back to the airlines...

Good luck with the contract negotiations this Spring...

For us in the pool, any hint or idea when they will be starting classes again?

flynwmn 01-11-2009 10:45 AM

Pike and John have been hinting at maybe 2nd quarter of 09 but all depends on the economy. Also it sounds like the SYR flying is going to increase again, probably the colgan flying to boston.

higgi8f6 01-11-2009 01:42 PM

So rumor I heard today, PSA and Mainline flights continue to decrease in March however PDT to increase flying. Don't have any truth to it just a rumor, but (on a positive note) it would support the idea of needing to hire later this year.

It would be nice if we would get our aircraft utilization back up. I know it is the slow season and all but three planes came into CLT during the first 6am bank and sat there till almost 10. That is two legs per plane that could have been flown.

On a side note: What is the longest sit you have had on a scheduled crew. Just curious cause today we sat in CLT for 3 1/2 hours after an originator. Show was 4:25am fly to CLT nap for 2-3 hours then back to work.

I can't for the life of me understand why PSA keeps getting the shaft

Nice of you to offer your help around here - you're not the only one who 'actually works there' by the way.

Because PSA is "shaftable." It's a W/O with 35 50-seaters and no contractual minimum.

I heard this same rumor from A.W. on a line check a few weeks ago...apparently we will need 420 pilots to cover all the flying and we have 440 at the moment. They may have to hire for reserve coverage.

My longest scheduled, 3.5 as well. BUT...BGM-PHL, sit for 3, ROA turn, sit for 3.5 then go home. 13 hrs on duty, 5 credit. Duty rigs anyone???

Heard from the SYR ops people that we'll be getting Colgan's SYR-BOS run in Feb or Mar...that will give SYR 3 originators on weekdays and 4 on weekends.

Speaking of PSA, did they ever find out who took a crap in the Chief Pilots V-File a while back? I laughed sooooo hard when I heard the recording scolding the mystery culprit. LMAO! Sorry for the thread drift.

I'm glad to see SYR has more overnighters than CHO....sigh.

As an union Rep why you don't just better go and find out who was the "smart" A.H. from CHO who posted that he will work for free on the ask-piedmont. I know many guys who cann't wait to find out and fly with this guy . I'm sure he will get a lot more flying as he wants if we find out who he is.

skyfreq21 01-12-2009 08:02 PM

i tell you what...thats ridiculous for someone to say..we are trying to get a new contract right now...does this guy not understand that someone will always do our job cheaper...we all need to stick together to get this industry back where it used to be...he should go fly for mesa...airlines are like families, i have been in the industry my whole life...if a couple pieces of the family back out, the whole thing fails...we are doing our best to get a better contract and most of all better quality of life...we all need to stick together and help each other out if we are gonna get anywhere

DashAlmighty 01-12-2009 08:06 PM

Whooo Hooo New Hire Hunt..... GROW UP!!!!

Awesome lets go after some new hire that doesn't know any better. Get a grip, he probably has no idea what he said was idiotic and somewhat insulting to the pilot group. Also, to set the record straight I believe he stated he would "work without per diem," not for free. I don't know who it was nor do I care to, but give him a break. Turn this  into this :D. Try to remember a time when you loved flying so much you would do it for free! If there wasn't such a time for you, what the H--- are you doing here?

Respectfully,
ANOTHER FELLOW CHO FO

PS If you are looking to help out, the union is in desperate need of new blood. Get involved, ask questions, and most importantly HOLD your elected MEC officers accountable.

skyfreq21 01-12-2009 08:10 PM

nice job turning the frown upside down..thats what we need

DASH8AV8R 01-12-2009 08:16 PM

Why don't you put some of your energy getting your fellow FO's (& CA's) to fill out the survey for the up coming contract.
How to you expect us to get a new contract if only 30% of our bloody pilot group fill out the survey.:o

DashAlmighty 01-12-2009 08:21 PM

Already taken it! I can't blame the other 70% for not taking it. They don't hear a single word from their union in months, then all the sudden a survey pops-up in their inbox "please help us out and take our survery." You can't expect a dissapointed pilot group to sit, bark, and roll over on your command. Our MEC should have been preparing the pilot group for this negotiation months ago... Thats my opinion...

Phuz 01-12-2009 10:31 PM

It doesn't help that the 'survey' is more of an S.A.T. than a survey.

And yes, I filed mine a few weeks ago. It does ask the same questions about 5 times each in a slightly different manner. I dont know how on Earth they can possibly make use of all that data.

DASH8AV8R 01-13-2009 05:30 AM

Well thank you for taking time to fill it out. I know it was a P.I.T.A. but thats the format that ALPA surveys uses.
You are correct about the MEC rallying the troops, it should have happened that way. The Neg comm is not allowed by the MEC to directly approach the pilot group everything has to go trough the MEC office.
But is pretty clear to everyone on the Neg Comm what needs to be changed/improved this time around.
thanks;)

FLYING HIGH 01-13-2009 08:07 PM

Completed it couple of weeks after it came out. And Completely agree with the post that we are not hearing anything from our MEC.

:D and that face is for you DashAlmithy ;)

higgi8f6 01-14-2009 06:37 AM

So did anybody else notice we renewed the leases due on the 300's? Good news cause I was almost sure they were going to get leased out to someone else who would pay more for them.

flynwmn 01-14-2009 08:10 AM

Yeah we have all the 300's leased and most of the 100's only a couple left and they arent due until the end of the year. So at least we aren't losing any equipment.

RedBaron007 01-18-2009 06:59 PM

I'd like to also add that I agree we hear too little from the MEC. There's an entire Communications Committee Chairman position, and I feel they should be utilized a bit more.

Apparently whoever posted that learned their lesson. From this week's Ask Piedmont: just wanted to apologize to my fellow pilots and flight attendants regarding my apparent inexcusable comment about flying without getting per diem that I made in last weeks 'Ask Piedmont.' It was only a sarcastic remark in the heat of the moment and in no way did I mean for it to come across as the truth. Thank you.

I have been saying this exact same thing for sometime now. It is their job to ensure our pilot group is up-to-date with the most current happenings. If you are interested in helping out contact your local reps ASAP. The sooner people start volunteering the faster things can be done and changed. ALPA is only as effective as its members.

Awesome, glad to see you would be great and peachy to see PDT hire while PSA had guys on the street. Goes with the standard though, worried about number 1.

Laxrox43 01-19-2009 08:57 AM

Well, statistics show that in the past when the jet routes decreased, turbo-props picked up the slack. It's not so much that they're looking out for "number 1," but financially it makes sense.

It sucks that US Airways and PSA are loosing routes, but I bet you a dollar to a doughnut that once the economy recovers you will start seeing US Airways/PSA flying these routes again. Just be patient...

Good luck and keep the faith...

No problem with that lax. But the poster made it sound he was over joyed with the fact the loss of mainline/psa flying was to the benefit of PDT. Not thinking about whom else it might really hurt.

Well, then he is just another trite inexpert Riddle punk who could give a rip about anyone other then himself. So therefore, I agree with you. Rant over, carry on...

By all means please blame me for all the failings in this industry. I believe the title of this thread was PDT News and RUMORS! And yes I love hearing how all my friends, several who are at PSA are all losing their jobs. (Oh and since you can't hear my voice I am typing very satirical.) If you can't add anything worthwhile to this tread and you just want to degrade someone else or cause trouble, please just keep it to yourself. *rant/defense over.

To get back on topic, I was told today we will be starting PHL-EWR in March with an originator in EWR. Any truth to this?

threegreen 01-19-2009 03:32 PM

BT send an email out last summer stating that PDTs flying will increased, and their will be a class in Sept (small class)...So much for that:rolleyes:

I believe it when i get a call for a class date...thats is i am still considered to be in the pool

Ok, here are some:

1) Flow through is right around the corner

2) Jets are on the way

3) Mesa is buying those jets to run under their own brand

Ooops, sorry, these rumors are from 1994....

Though some times it feels like we(PSA) are a red headed step child.

This probably doesnt have much to do with anything, but did anybody notice under the "view bid lines" and "view bid awards" on the PDT website that under the base selection options SYR is there? Was it there before? I swear it wasnt.. Might not have been paying attention, though.

It's probably much like CAK at PSA. An old base that is still on the bid forms, but 99.9% of the time you just look over it like its not there. But I don't work at PDT so I can't say.
