Cut back at LAX

Wonder who suffers the brunt of this-

Delta plans to slash service aboard its regional carriers in November, when it will offer 68 weekly flights in and out of LAX, down from 710 weekly flights offered during the same period last year. The airline is also cutting 150 other arrivals and departures at LAX, a 24 percent reduction.

I'm guessing XJT, since their DAL flying was cancelled...

Yes. Effective 1 September, if memory serves, ExpressJet won't be flying Delta-branded operations out of LAX.

Which is a shame, as it is really handy for going anywhere on this coast, on Delta.

are you sure it's 68?

Why would DL give up that market, they have a pilot domicile there

are you sure it's not a typo and it's going to be 680?

68 would require no base, and there would be a lot more huffing and puffing because LAX is EXTREMELY senior.

Gotta make room for NWA planes at DCC. Look for a repositioning of fleet types then.

When the Delta/XJT deal ended abruptly they said in a couple press releases that only a few LAX routes would be replaced by another dci carrier and the rest would be dropped. All of the SLC routes would go with reduced frequency to or back to another dci carrier. SKW had the SLC routes prior to XJT but in LAX everyone felt Delta was posturing to keep the competitive advantage which became less important as fuel went up. Just a guess???

This is where I read about the drastic drop. Another newspaper said Delta was cutting back 68 flights, not going to 68. Who knows?

Delta has been slowly pulling back on LAX for the past several months after their latest buildup attempt. The flights in this buildup were to places like JAX, BDL, CMH, and RDU. Combine that with the Delta Connection ops being run by ExpressJet, and things had gotten busy at LAX for Delta over the past year or so. All of their LAX reductions are coming at the expense of the ExpressJet ops and those newer destinations. I believe LAX will basically be down to the bare essentials, like ATL, CVG, SLC, HNL, OGG, LIH, KOA, and JFK, after all is said and done.

I would throw BOS onto that list too.

It was nice seeing them use LAX while it lasted—Delta's never been so big at LAX (I'm told) since the Western days.

(I wouldn't know; I wasn't around.)
