What do/did you do sitting reserve to pass the time?
Whats some of the stuff you guys did to pass the time other then making threads like this?
Lately I have been going to the store and buying things in small quantities, that way I run out fast and have to go to the store again, and that takes up some time... not to mention the girls that work there are preety :D But for the most part its hanging around doing not much of anything waiting for the phone to ring in hopes its scheduling but when it does ring its your mom, or maybe it is scheduling so you get excited and pick up in hopes that you got assigned a trip, but they are only calling to let you know that your on call time for the next day has been adjusted ot 0900 and that pretty much tells you they have plenty of reserves in base and you will most likely not be flying that next day. (run on i know.) |

(run on i know.) Me, I actually spooled up a side business that's still young but is showing excellent potential. I use my down time (when I have it these days) to work on that. Why sit around watching TV for ~$90/day when you could do a little work and make more? |
Enjoy your time off. You'll get called soon enough. Never, ever, ever hope that the person who's calling is scheduling.

Bid the at home reserve, and enjoy the check all month for doing nothing.
If your stuck sitting Ready Reserve / Airport Standby, or whatever they call it; bring a book, some DVD's, start working on your resume for when the furloughs come; do some job hunting.... what is your report time if called? If you are only required to stay on airport property, or just required to be at the plane in 15 minutes.... find yourself a crashpad nearby that only charges if you stay overnight. In NYC there are a bunch that are 25 a night and within walking distance of the terminal. Go sign in, then walk to the crashpad and watch TV or play video games, or use the computer... open a zecco account and start day trading a little. If all else fails, just relax, stake out a good place to watch the departure and arrivals and enjoy the check for doing nothing. |
Most of my RSV time was over this past winter; half in PSP and half in SLC. I spent most of my time in PSP at the local skatepark; free and amazingly uncrowded. Once back in SLC I would go skiing or snowboarding depending on my mood and conditions.
My rule is to be doing something fun that is within range of the AP if you get that call. Cheers |
porn and video games takes up most of my reserve time....try it

I was going to do the whole "start a side business thing" but I inevitably ended up sleeping, watching TV, and surfing the internet so much my laptop almost ignited because it's a mac and it gets hot like that...
I thought about getting a DVR to make my TV viewing more efficient so I would run out of everything I wanted to watch in a few hours and be forced to do something productive. Take an online class and get an MBA? Daytrading? Read classic works of literature? Restore a rental property? Get a real estate license? All things I could've done but didn't. For some reason I can't bring myself to start some project knowing there is a slight chance I might be interrupted by scheduling and have to put it down. |
Your goal on rsv.... fly as little as possible and get paid.... well...if you live in base that is..... rsv in a crash pad just plain sucks.....
work out.... read.... study.... |
haha, thanks for the ideas guys, keep'em commin.
My situation isnt too horrible at all. I have a 2 hour call-out. I usually do enjoy the time off, but when everyone around you is out working and doing stuff you start feeling kinda like a bum. lol |
