Mesaba Uniform Question
I've noticed a few of the Mesaba guys are wearing their epaulets upside down? I even mentioned it to one of the FO's. His repose was "I know. Thanks". He didn't change it, so I must be out of the loop or something..
Anyone know what the significance is? |
I don't fly for Mesaba, but I heard the CRJ900 pilots, or "9 drivers" like they call themselves wear them like that.

Sorry gotta call some BS on this one. I have yet to see one of our 900 pilots doing anything of the sort. And if you do see one....follow him into a dark alley and....well you know ;) |

Anyone know what the significance is? HAHA you shot his ego down im sure...he prolly headed straight to the bathroom and changed em around. |
I call BS as well. As soon as this rumor hit these forums a few of our captains went on a mission to get to the bottom of it. It turned out it was ONE incident of ONE new MSP -900 FO who didn't realize they were upside down for a day. When he was told, he was embarrassed. The whole issue has since been a lesson in how gossip can spread within a company and how quickly the crewroom talk makes it onto the internet.
Even during recurrent this rumor was brought up many times a day... the captain who was on the case from the start was getting pretty frustrated trying to set everyone straight. At this point the truth isn't even important anymore. |
BS this is a urban legend that won't die.

Fine ima gonna snap a picture this week. I'll post it when I get back later next week. Then ya'll shall believe.

I was in PWM last night and sure as hell....the FO had his stripes on backwards......I didnt say anything as it was 4am....but they are out there...
The Colgan Kids are much worse....hang around BOS for an hour and count how many backwards stripes you see :p |
It's probably overblown gossip to some degree, but I can personally say that I've seen it. As previously posted, it was on an MSP shuttle bus last winter. The FO was a -900 driver, and was gloating that he was on the 9 to an NWA mainliner.
PLEASE don't post any pics of our guys doing this...walking around like this is bad, but having the picture printed out and sent across the CP's desk would be even worse. I think this is more of a pro stans. issue. For once and all, the Eagle Saabs are NOT coming to XJ. They're going to REX, a big regional in Australia. From Wikipedia: Aircraft orders Rex has ordered 25 ex American Eagle SAAB 340B Plus aircraft, which have extended wingtips (offered as an option on Saab 340B Plus aircraft) to increase flight performance and fuel efficiency, plus improved interior soundproofing. The first was originally scheduled to arrive in late 2006, however Rex took delivery of the first on April 30, 2007; it entered service on June 6th. By March 2008, nine had been delivered, bringing the REX fleet to 40. The 340B Plus aircraft (which will have 34 blue leather seats) will be painted in the REX livery prior to delivery and are fitted with the optional Hamilton Standard propellers (present on all current and former American Eagle Saab 340B aircraft) instead of the Dowty Rotol propellers fitted to the existing fleet. One of the planes being ferried: FlightAware > Live Flight Tracker > N382AE |
seeing is believing. I feel sorry for the poor Ba$tard that ends up in that pic and gets a call from his CP

Spooled-Why dont you concentrate on your own companies problems (and stop worrying about one new hire XJ FO) plenty to keep you busy there. |

As hard as you might find it to believe, XJ CRJ-900/"9 Drivers" dont go around and brag about the airplane they fly. As much as you might like to think they do. Why is it so terrible if they call their aircraft the "9"? Is that what we are worrying about today? Is the DC-9 the only aircraft that can be called a "9"?

Who cares....Also, I have never heard any 900 guys running around bragging about their plane. Its complete luck of the draw what plane we got assigned as new hires as far as I know. In fact, most 900 FO's I talk with wish they were on the Saab because thats where they will most likely upgrade to.

actually, i have heard some 900 guys up on their high horse bragging about the plane. but why would they call it the "9" anyway. shouldn't it be the 9...hundred? i don't call the saab the 3, or the three fo.
They can call it whatever they want. You know what they are talking about if they are an XJ FO. |

Not just Colgan. I have saved many new Colgan FOs who have walked into the crew room on day 1 with upside down stripes. They just dont know any better because it is the first time they have ever put on epauletes. I know that colgan guys are not alone on this one. Not a protest, just naivety.
Side note: I was in PWM last night also but got there at 2pm and was out at 6:05am. Wow, I know the newer breed was hired before they could really fly, but I didn't know they couldn't dress either. |
