Island Air info?

curious if anyone has any info on Island Air, based in Honolulu - hiring mins, the 'inside scoop', etc. i've looked at their website but that's the only info i have. currently a CFI, looking toward the next step sometime soon, and i'd love to live in paradise. any helpful info would be appreciated. thanks!

none for you :p

living on an island is overrated Ive told you this

From being a military guy on the island making alot more than one of their FOs.. forget it!! A gallon of milk can run around $4-5. I think they fly shorter runs too, so it takes time to build up your hours. The cost of living is the killer though...

Your probably going to have to live with 9 other Island pilots in a two bedroom apartment. Or maybe a home made tent by the beach. Someone on this site said a few weeks ago that Islandair has an unorganized flight department, don't know what that means. Must be good comraderie though with only 90 pilots.

thanks for the input (except punkpilot... you're no help ;) )

i know that the cost of living is high, but one of my best friends lives there now and has an extra room, so the housing situation would be taken care of.

i'm mainly just curious if anyone has any insight into their interview, training, etc., but anything is helpful.

Dreaming of Hawaii.

Acousticgrace,

Did you ever find out anymore information about Island Air? I have the same aspirations as you and I am dilligently building time and saving money to make it over there. Are you still considering applying or have you? Any information on the company, or any other flying opportunity for that matter, would be helpful.

Thanks,
Lauren

As I understand it, IslandAir is getting Q400s very, very slowly (i think they covered their in dirt 100s/200s and are watering them and talking to them, hoping they grow into Q400s:D ) and that there is not a whole lot of movement. I looked at interviewing with them but when I found out I had to pay my own way to and from the island and pick up my own hotel, I said forget it. Would have cost me close to $1000 to go INTERVIEW! Makes Mesa's $50 look piddly. I think they make you pay for your own flights because they would prefer to hire folks who are already in Hawaii.
