Republic, Shuttle, Chautauqua

I haven't seen a thread about RAH lately and the ones about Midwest have been locked so I thought I'd start this one. I'm sure there will be a lot of news and info resulting from the Midwest flying as well as about furloughs and any hiring that may happen resulting from this new contract. I'm also wondering whats happening with Chautauqua's crjs and the 135/145's, staying, leaving? any news will be appreciated, thanks

none of the furloughs were canceled. the CRJs are going to the desert and the 135s are being sold over seas. the only 145s scheduled to leave are the 7 united planes ( Dec 2009). None of us here are thrilled with the Midwest deal.

TXTECHKA 09-08-2008 05:52 PM

I recently quit cause I had something better come along where I live. Also, I didn't want to go back on reserve and the only reason I went there in the first place was to upgrade and those aren't going to happen again for quite a while. It's an ok place though, better than most it seems. I had a good time there anyway.

Stand up and tell you management that NO you will not be used as a tool to whipsaw other pilot groups. Time will only tell if the RAH pilot group stands on principle or caves in to management.

Lawd Hammercy, here we go again.

How do you propose doing so?

reevesofskyking 09-08-2008 06:18 PM

I dont want to start anything here.
Maybe now is a time to reflect for all the new readers here.
I know when started two years ago, I had a good impression of what a good company was, and was not.
Then as quickly as I thought I had a handle on it, then things start to change in an instant.

My opinions only.............

Republic, good, then starting to change for the worse.
Expressjet, good, will always make money, now do no think quite so much
TSA, when I started thought it was bad, then it starting getting better, now since I have left, bad again and not sure where their bottom going to be.

Colgan, never thought to much of them two years ago, but seem to be more stable relitive to the others.

Point being, my impressions and perceptions have changed nearly 180 with all airlines that i have studied and reserched.

It is damn shame when I feel a good airlines now is one that is stagnant from viewed a year or two ago.

Working at RAH is like being the new ho on the block. The older ho's don't like you because you are younger and prettier and get more attention from the Johns, but at the end of the day you're still a ho and so are they.

Just like everything else in life.......
Tens of thousands dream of becoming big time lawyers, doctors or even making it to the NFL, or NBA and so on but time does what it does best. When the going gets tough.......................
Believe it or not, there are guys and gals at Colgan, Mesa or Republic and so forth that are having the time of their lives. Then there are those that absolutely hate it.... All I am trying to say is just like everything else in life, it is clear that not all of us are cut out to be aviators. Just my two cents worth!

Nicely put. I know of a few instructors at my flight school that have gone part time or have quit all together to find better paying jobs. But not me, I love flying too much plus I know the industry goes though its cycles. So I just keep on instructing and keep on flying, better days will come.

UG,

I think what you should be saying is not everyone is cut out to be an airline pilot. A person with a private pilots license is an aviator so is a 777 captain. Even a person that has a student pilots license in my book is an aviator.

Don't know if i'd say they're not cut out to be aviators. I typically try to be an upbeat person, and i think we'd be hard pressed to find anyone here who doesn't like flying. The truth though is that there's only so much you can take for the joy of flying. At this point, I can see myself getting my flying fix from renting airplanes on the weekend, or, even having the financial means to buy a small plane. I'm never one to try and dash someone's dreams. But your perspective changes when you see people who have been employed at a major airline for nearly a decade, and actually WORKED at that company for 3 years or less. All while realizing they're going back on the street. Or downgraded major captains who are taking paycuts more than I made in a year. Same as Midwest pilots who have an ultimatum of fly for less, or let midwest airlines become smaller than midwest connection.

Seems to me that airline hiring may be cyclical, but it seems as though pay and working conditions are simply on the descent.

HercDriver130 09-09-2008 10:59 AM

I kidded myself for more than a decade that I didnt miss it. For me it was the ultimate denial. You see I left flying after nearly 10 years of constant flying... military and then part 121 at AE ( back when everything they flew were TP's and regionals were actually regional airlines ....) the misery of it all... the commuting , the UNION BS, the crappy pay.... drove me away. But in the end everything worked out... I went out busted my butt for that decade or so, and did very well. And last year when the opportunity presented itself I came back to what I was meant to do. I make a decent salary for an okay company with better than average quality of life with very diverse flying.......it works for me... for now.

As for RAH I have ALOT of good friends there, and I certainly appreciate the opportunity they gave me to get my feet wet again in this business. Just remember that the pilot group and RAH and RAH MGT are two very different animals.

I respectfully disagree! They are Pilots...there are very, very few Aviators anymore - it's just become too easy to fly airplanes. So Pilots, absolutely...but an Aviator? That's an earned title.

Hey Herc just curious did the company come after you for the training or did you wait for the offered leave?

Well there are many ways but flying those airplanes isn't one of them.

So why do you do it then? And yes, a CR7 is the same thing

Rnav 09-09-2008 04:55 PM

Actually ExAB your right. The term pilot is more appropriate. An aviator is someone more refined in the art of airmanship from my understanding. And they are few and far between thanks to pilot mills(thats for another post though).

ToiletDuck 09-09-2008 05:41 PM

Pilot=training, Aviator=Experience.... Guess it just depends on who you're standing next to.

HercDriver130 09-09-2008 05:51 PM

TD hit the nail on the head....
