Colgan Sept 22 Class

Just wanted to see who else is in it besides me.....:D

E ThePilot 09-11-2008 01:19 PM

I had hoped to be but didn't make it. They asked if I was interested in doing the Saab on the 22nd and would get back with me but never did. Back to the hunt for me I guess.

You are absolutely correct.... I overreacted to the last alpa count.... I apologize. After having spoken with friends who work for colgan at great length I have realized/decided that I would enjoy working for colgan.
Thank you for keeping me honest and for bringing up my controversial past.
I apologize if what I had said offended you.

As far as I know all current scheduled classes are for the Saab.

etflies 09-11-2008 03:46 PM

Does anybody have any idea what kind of times people are getting hired with over there?

Look, be honest Colgan is the only game in town right now, I would respect you more if you said, "I still hate Colgan, but its an airline job"

Your apologetic post is kinda of sickening :)

Hey man, congrats on the new job. I see that you gave up on PSA. Do you know if Colgan is still hiring, and if they are are they running new hire classes the rest of the year?

No.... Mesaba is hiring, Great Lakes, and Cape Air are as well.... and for the direction that I am moving in right now especially with the SO Colgan really does offer the most to me....

is it so wrong for a person to change their mind? I only apologize because I was simply reacting on emotion and really didn't look at anything other than what people had posted on this website... which isn't all that informative.... and now if you will excuse me I have to try to remove my foot from my mouth.

No idea bro..... I will really believe that I have a job only when I am actually in ground school.

racemey 09-11-2008 05:12 PM

Hey Ben,

Congrats on the new gig! Looks like you and I will be starting groundschool the same day. I had to pass on the 8th at Mesaba but am on for the 22nd. Just went and had to re-do the pee test today because it had been so long. Best of luck and skill with everything!

Right now I believe they're advertising 1000TT and 100Multi

I was offered an interview, and then a class date with a little over 700TT and 300Multi

It amazes me that these companies can find ten pilots to work for them.

Where'd you work before ExpressJet again?

Colgan may have not worked for you, but it has worked for many other successful airline pilots. Maybe if you didn't have such a ****-poor attitude or walk around Colgan with such an undeserved sense of entitlement you could have gotten more out of Colgan. Your attitude was reflective of your work ethic because you couldn't remember a memory item if your life depended on it. I guess pay and work rules are more important than your job as a professional aviator.

I won't even bother responding to your other comment.

c'mon is it you?

UCLAbruins 09-12-2008 04:44 AM

How is the Saab?? how hard is it to learn the systems on that thing?? seems like an easy beast to fly, but I don't know about the systems......

I never said you were the only one with a pi$$ poor attitude, trust me their are plenty of pilots their with terrible attitudes. On the flip side, Colgan employs a lot of great people also, people who have great attitudes, strong work ethnic, and a dedicated professional attitude.
It makes a huge difference when you fly with a good FO as opposed to one who never studies, complains, and fall asleep every 5 minutes.
You should treat your job with the same dedication and respect whether you work at Express Jet, Colgan, or a Legacy.
I can comfortably say you have a pi$$ poor attitude based on your time at Colgan up in Albany and also by your continuous belittlement of any aviator looking to start their careers at Colgan solely on the basis that they are not unionized. They are plenty of pilots here who want and are working towards having a union, and there is a very good reason why those pilots attempting to organize are not interested in your help.

No, you wouldn't. I GUARANTEE it. You WILL have fun flying the SAAB and you WILL meet some great people (as you would at any airline) but you will NOT enjoy working for Colgan. I understand you have to find a job to pay the bills, so I can't tell someone that they shouldn't do something... I had a friend who wanted me to walk his resume in... I didn't want to, but I did it, because I knew he needed a job... I warned him plenty, and let him make the decison. guess what, months later, he AND his classmates are dying to get out.

I know some of our complaints aren't unique to us... other airlines may share it too, like crappy crew schedulers or something of that sort. But some problems, are just too major, and I refuse to believe that the same sort of issues exist at other respectable airlines. Let me list a few things I despise about Colgan.. just a few:

1. Fighting for correct pay credit. It doesn't matter how legit it is (cancellations, run-ups, repos, anything out of the ordinary), credit will disappear from your schedule, or you have to call or email the company repeatedly to get the credit, or get it back in a case where it mysteriously disappeared after you got it the first time. Basically you have to HAGGLE and argue just to get paid what you're supposed to be getting paid. Why the am I begging these schedulers who barely even have high school diplomas? But then you can't complain when they're being unfair or unprofessional because 1. she has been on intimate terms with the Chief Pilot so can we expect him to have OUR back? that is a rhetorical question by the way. 2. if we complain about them, they can retaliate by screwing with our schedules, etc. How are they allowed to have so much power over our lives? I hate that I have to deal with this, I wish I could be laid back like some guys who actually say, "eh, they'll take care of it." but I'm NOT, I like to be paid for my hard work.. and so week after week I'm forced to confront scheduling or Dot or Christine about these problems, I hate these phone call and emails that I'm forced to make. Three or four times, I've actually had pay credit changed SEVERAL WEEKS after the correct credit was inputted on my schedule. I'm talking... pay credit for July is changed on August 15, just before that paycheck on the 20th. The people who say they never noticed this is because they don't CHECK. so of course they don't notice! and why should they check? Who would ever think that their company would change the pay credit for the previous month right before the paycheck is due to be cut? This is just so wrong, we are employees and we should know, at any given moment, exactly what we're getting paid.
and yes there are a few pilots who have bedded certain crew schedulers, these guys will always get favorable treatment by Gina, so they have nothing but good things to say about Colgan and since they've never gotten screwed (in the bad way, not the good way) they will never vote for a union either. it's all rainbows and puppies for these few guys. yeah and by the way, dont trust anyone who says they are happy with Colgan. either they are 1. live in the very few bases that generally gets less screwing than the norm 2. 20 years old and have rich parents 3. blissfully unaware that their pay credits are getting jacked every month, or dont care because of #2 4. receive preferential treatment from Gina/Dot/Sherri/Dean,etc. for some reason or 5. company man beyond belief as in, "unions are bad for business, I don't care if I'm getting assraped, because unions are bad for Colgan and I love Colgan and I'm going to UPS as soon as I get my 1000 TPIC."

2. Bill Honan aka The Chief Company Man/The Chief Crew Scheduler/The Chief "good for nothing, throw you under the bus, will never do anything for any his pilots" Pilot

3. 4 hours waits for hotels, at midnight, with reduced rest in the morning, and of course not getting any hot reserve pay of any sort. Some in the system have had the luck to never have to experience something like this. I hope they do so they can stop being so smug and realize the need for a union and adherence to some sort, any sort of rules.

I know it's harsh, but you can't make this stuff up. Again, I'm not in a furloughed position so it's not fair for me to tell someone how to or how not to put food on their table. I am truly sorry for our soon to be newhires (and myself) that there is nothing else out there right now, I wouldn't wish Colgan on anyone.

I'm not sure if you were responding to my post (dunno what time it got pulled) but IF you were.. what I wrote has nothing to do with one's attitude. These are just rules that any normal employer should abide by, it's simple as paying an employee the rightful amount for their work. I don't want some kind of special verbal praise on crewtrac for working my butt off and I'm not expecting extra pay or anything.. I just want the BASIC pay that is due to me, without me having to fight for it time after time. My angry rant might make me look like I have crappy attitude, but I am angry because I work hard and all I get is poop slung in my face... I wouldn't have even posted if it weren't for Belliott saying he would enjoy working here. I was just incredulous reading that after having experienced everything I have with Colgan. Yeah, he's going to come here regardless of what I post in an internet forum... but at least now he can't say no one warned him.
