Pinnacle cancelling classes?
I know Pinnacle was looking to hire within the last month or so. But i just heard that they have cancelled all of their new hire classes. Is this true???
|
Unfortunately, yes. The two October classes will go as scheduled (one is already under way) and all classes through the end of the year have been cancelled.

Yep. That is correct. |
Is it just me or are they doing a poor job of scheduling and planning?
|
They tend to do this every fall. Look at what happened last winter.. Looking forward to a repeat. DW needs pull his head out of his......

yeah this is the third year in a row that i have been here that they have done this. every fall/winter they slow down on hiring and upgrades, then come march they cant hire and upgrade enough. same stuff different year.

You guys are short staffed. The company dumps it all on scheduling and expects them to fill trips that there are simply not enough pilots to cover. If anything, scheduling is doing a great job.

Been like that since the RJ's came online in '00. My dog does something bad, and by the 3rd time he realizes he shouldn't be doing it and adapts his behavior. 9e management does the same bad things over and over again for 8 yrs. They really are dumber than a dog. It seems like they are still surprised that it snows in MSP in the wintertime, and are amazed that APU use goes up in the summertime in MEM  |
Mesaba wonders what Paul Foley does.
At least we know what Ed Foley does. He likes to write memos. Lets see the latest one was telling us we can't use ipods unless deadheading. Have you wear our uniform when commuting to work (LMAO). Must be cleanly shaven? I think that was a hint for our grandma FA's...Uniforms pants must be the correct color.. I'm tried of buying pants that zippers break after a few uses. So I will not by M&H pants. Umm k.. ugggggggggggggggg PS. Are they related? |

Half the folks I know are, like myself, going to be timing out before December too. Who is ready for the "don't call in sick" threats we're about to get the next several months? Flu season... What is that!? |
My favorite was the APU memo. LOL. Company will continue to pay millions in APU overages until pilots get a contract. Management can't seem to comprehend that and a lot of other things.
Then you have the company guys who don't want to run it more than five minutes. They don't understand the wear and tear on the APU isn't from running it, its from starting and stopping it. Such a great idea to run it for five mintues then shut it down before everything is up to operating temperature. Passenger Comfort. And I'm sticking too it. |
So it is official that we have canceled classes? That truly sucks. I fly in DTW and hadn't been JA'd since May. Then on Sat, after flying 29 hours in six days, they called me at 10:15pm to JA a high speed. I didn't answer the phone, but apparently they were going to dead head me one direction to have me fly home in the morning.
I think this is just another sign of how understaffed we still are. They JA'd out of DTW all week. I personally think scheduling is doing a great job with what they have to work with, and I can only imagine that they get as frustrated as we get. I guess this is a sign of a long winter to come. I can't wait to see the new people out of training and flying the line. |
Yeah...lots of open time out there it seems. And pitiful reserve coverage. It's like someone forgot about the junior FOs going to ATL, and forgot our block times were going up vs. Sept., and now the JA stuff is going nuts again. It's so crazy we have like 250 pilots in a holding pool, we're upgrading ANOTHER 16 into ATL (8-10) and it's like no one has looked at our FO numbers at all.

You guys love Pinnacle. You should be thankful for all the jobs they provide to inexperienced pilots and the experience to actually get paid to fly a jet upon graduating from the prestigious University of Jet.
Better get your flu shots so you can keep your number one on-time going into 2009!!! The U.S. Department of Transportation ranked Pinnacle Airlines Corp.’s subsidiary, Pinnacle Airlines Inc., No. 1 for having the best on-time arrival rate for the U.S. mainland in August. The ranking marks the fourth month in a row that Pinnacle was either No. 1 overall or on the mainland. Pinnacle led all mainland carriers with an on-time arrival rate of 89.64 percent. Hawaiian Airlines, at 92.26 percent, led all carriers. Memphis-based Pinnacle (NASDAQ: PNCL) is an airline holding company and is the parent company of Pinnacle Airlines Inc. and Colgan Air Inc. It is the largest regional airline operating at Memphis International Airport. |

Lot of things positive about aviation, not just the Mesa's and Pinnacle's out there... sorry. I wish I could be more positive about 900's and especially Pinnacle getting 900's but yet still poverty wages lacking work rules. Till that changes and on time performance suffers, I guess I'm entitled to my same old opinion about Pinnacle. |

plus nice of you to compare 9 year old contracts with new ones that you just happened to walk into due to the fights of the pilots before you.... |
The schedulers at 9E do a good job with what they are told and given. With our management they are under strict instructions on what they are allowed to do. And then they are given a thousands of hours to cover with less then 5 crews per a/c, and on top of that less then 15 rsv pilots per base per day. Because we cover that during the summer our management in their infinite wisdom thinks you can do that with winter ops.
So they fly guys a 100 hrs a month all year and wonder why they time out around october. Then they see few delays from May to Sept, and wonder why there are wx delays Nov to Mar. Every year surprised by sick calls during seasonal changes. So here is how we send a message, NOBODY pick up their phone, they will be forced to use reserves, and when that runs out, uh-oh, they will scramble to start classes. Delta will force the new contract with the pilots to include more crews per a/c = more jobs. And stop using cell phones for mx issues, and disregard that URGENT MEMO, no where in our job description does it say we are responsible to make sure the a/c is maintained, only that the books are up to date.(and if you read the memo carefully all it says is that if the cat II expires you have to have it written up, and if its within 10 days of expiring to you are REQUESTED to do a practice, I forget requests all the time) And that memo that we need to look like professionals, why dont they pay us like professionals, but dont take it like we should walk around like a bunch of slobs either. |

The world would be a better place without Pinnacle. $38 an hour for an FO on the 200... underpaid yes, is a Pinnacle FO going to see that after "the new contract," doubt it.

Do you have any idea how fair their rates on the Saab were when we flew them? It's new guys like you that dont realize today's stepchild was yesterday's place to be, and vice versa. And why is it OK for Skywest to fly -900's or -700 but any other regional get them and you say. "great stealing more mainline routes?"....and you decided to stay there when you put the nail in Midwest's coffin. According to your logic, what does that make you? |

I do not believe you Pinnacle guys. You are complaining about flying too much. You should be thankful that you are still flying. A lot of your fellow brothers and sisters are on the street and not able to work. You should be ashamed of yourself. Go fly and do the job you are paid to do and stop complaining. Maybe if you get furloughed you will appreciate what you have. You make me sick.

I SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF MYSELF??? MAYBE IF I GET FURLOUGHED??? I MAKE YOU SICK??? I am going to try to be civil here, but I have news for you. I ALREADY HAVE BEEN FURLOUGHED THIS YEAR!!! That is why I am at Pinnacle. I am thankful everyday that I have a job and am still flying. I love the fact that I flew almost 30 hours last week. The problem that I was pointing out, is that we are understaffed and using JA (junior assignment), while we are canceling new hire classes. That is just stupidity. If we were still hiring, there would be another place for my "fellow brothers and sisters" to get a job. That would be good for everybody. Try reading a post for what it is actually saying before you go bashing next time. Oh, and DON'T EVER assume you know a thing about my career history again. |

Whoa back the insult train up, we are complaining that we are flying to much because we want Pinnacle to hire more so that our fellow brothers and sisters on the street can come get jobs. Thats what we are so ****ed about, why are they flying us to death when they could hire highly qualified people right now that are out of work. Resist that knee jerk reaction that we are complaining about flying and see the point of the complaints.

Here's a little negotiating strategy. When you end the streak of being the number one on time regional and performance suffers because Pinnacle pilot's have stopped coming on the boards recommending jobs and start telling their "brothers and sisters" to stop applying because the pay and workrules suck. For the time being maybe it would be better to go and work at Costco driving the forklift instead of flying jets around for 4 days at a time bringing in 300 bucks. Pinnacle is a horrible company stop spreading the plague.
way to cast a shadow on every pilot there due to the hiring/performace actions of a few......actually since management is scared poopless and has scared the rampers and finally staffed the ramp right, it is VERY hard to get a late legit departure/arrival. |

Pinnacle Class Cancelled
I just talked to a pilot who was in the pool for ground school. He just told me that he was scheduled a class on Oct. 6th and that was cancelled too. The APC website says that all classes after Oct 20th were cancelled which is untrue at this time. My guess is that the last class was on Sept. 22nd. What surprises me is that PNCL just got 7 more CRJ's and I see other pilots stating that PNCL is short staffed. What is going on here? I am having a hard time understanding. Maybe left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Any input?
