To the guys that commute out of ORD...

where do you park? I just moved back to the Chicago area and will be commuting out of ORD. I work for 9E. I heard that there are hotels in the area that will let you park in their lots for a fee? Any of the off-airport lots offer monthly rates to airline crewmembers? Thanks dudes.

Take the train. I commute to SDF and have devised a routine where I take Metra and the Orange Line to MDW and commute on SWA. Total cost: about $10 for the roundtrip. I do this 2-3 times a month. Sure beats having to pay for gas, parking, insurance, etc. Plus, I never have to sit in rush hour traffic. See if you can get to the Blue Line and you're set.

there r some hotels off the blue line. in the rosemont, cumberland, jefferson park etc. just look at the map of the stops close to you and airport.... CTA | Chicago Transit Authority - Train Schedules

i used to and always see pilots riding.

hope that helps

For you ORD commuters do you find it fairly easy to get on a flight to get to work? I might be moving out to chicago soon but my base is detroit (Northwest regional guy here).

siuaviation 10-11-2008 06:16 PM

Thanks for the tips guys regarding the Metra and CTA. I wish it would be easier for me to take Metra and the CTA into ORD, but I live in the far northern suburbs. I'll always have to catch the 6am or 7am flight to "The D" in order to make my show time so I'll be driving. Thanks again for the help though! Any info on parking at the hotels in the area or discounts at the off-airport lots?

sandstorm 10-12-2008 08:21 AM

talk to the ord secretary for nw. airlines that dont provide parking in the secured area on the field park in the AMC parking lot. commuters from airlines that dont have a base at ord also park in this lot. im guessing it may be up to each individual airline though. price is $240 for 6 months.

weasil 10-12-2008 08:26 AM

sandstorm is correct. the parking lot is just off mannheim rd on the east side of the airport, and there's a regular bus to the terminals. You have to purchase a parking pass, and should probably be able to get one from the NWA operations folks at ORD. Go to the ticket counter at terminal two and tell them why you are there and they will point you in the right direction.
I think the O'Hare Marriott sells parking also - not sure what it costs.

I take the CTA blue line... only been harassed by two homeless people this month so far. Wear a Northface over your uniform.

Is there an employee lot at the airport for pilots?

$8-9 a day gets you covered parking at Preflight Parking on Manheim and Irving. Plus they have shuttles literally every 5-10 minutes.

Most airlines with crew bases there have free parking in one of several employee parking lots.

leica typ240 03-13-2017 05:49 PM

...if you choose
to get a monthly pass for cumberland cta blue line garage, it is $120/mo. that comes out to $4 a day(plus cta fee to airport)

not sure if your airline can register your cta card as an employee so you don't pay the full fee departing the airport on the blue line

Thanks guys, my airline does not have a crew base so that's out I suppose. The preflight parking, do they just need an ID for employee rate?

I just looked at preflight. $12 a day with tax, still better than the cta, where I am at the moment- $13 a day plus $8 round trip train ride. Thanks guys, if anyone has a better please post it

Pride parking on Manheim. $6 a day and frequent vans.

It's hard to find monthly parking at ORD. However, Routes car rental located on Mannheim road has parking. They charge $6.99/day+ tax BUT I have talked their manager into monthly parking. He gave it to me for $150/month flat (tax included). If you are interested, PM me and I will give you his info. Hope this helps.

I just read your post to my capt and she says she found a sweet illegal parking spot- I suggest you do the same.
