Another TSA Memos

One of our latest memos from our Chief Pilot told us if our passenger load manifest we receive from the gate differs from our FA's count not call the gate agent back to correct it, but to change it ourselves, because it would save time. Is this not a security issue?

Does anyone else think this is a big problem?

ACEAV8R 10-21-2008 06:18 PM

 i would say so. it hasn't been long since i was a gate agent but crazy things happen with those computers. the gate agent should be able to verify who's count is accurate even if it means going through the aircraft with a hard copy list. but it's no longer my battle to fight.:p

ksuav8r 10-21-2008 07:00 PM

Didn't a kid sneak through TSA and board a SWA flight recently?

Anyway, so now that the gate agent screwed up the count, you have to assume that they DIDN'T screw up and let an extra person on (or not scan a ticket)?

ExperimentalAB 10-21-2008 07:12 PM

Yeah...I am shocked a CP would put something so ridiculous in writing. That is asking for the FAA to come down on you if something goes astray.

Salukipilot4590 10-21-2008 07:17 PM

CRJ1000 10-21-2008 07:43 PM

As PIC you should instruct you FA that you don't want to see the CS paperwork at all until it matches exactly. Never change it yourself...only asking for problems. The CS always throws the paperwork up to you and runs off ir pulls the jet bridge...instead have them talk to the FA and agree!!!

Right, because passengers don't get on the wrong plane and end up in CVG instead of BDL....wait a minute...

Just walk up there if you have to it only takes a second and avoids the risk. It is a legal issue. If she says there are adults on board and the FA counts them as kids and you take off overweight then there will be some issues. Tell your CP you need an accurate count so that you stay within regulations. He can't tell you no.

Ha, unless it's a gate agent at dulles... They don't even speak english 99% of the time. You're lucky if you get the paperwork for the right flight, let alone the right count...

Just take that memo to one of the FEDs running around STL and see what they think about it.

ehe2 10-22-2008 02:44 PM

I AM CONCERNED forms are read by the feds...

CaptainCarl 10-22-2008 08:05 PM

I AM CONCERNED:

I feel like management might be planning something that rhymes with "grape."

bryris 10-23-2008 06:07 AM

I thought the same thing upon reading that memo. There will be an amended memo soon. That is absolutely stupid. So, the gate sheet says that we have 40 people who were issued boarding passes. A quick count by the FA reveals 43 bodies, 3 of which are wearing turbans....

Just change the count and off we go!!!!!

daretoaviate 10-23-2008 06:19 AM

they did not wear turbans when they first attack...why should they do now ?
if they made it through security to the gate.....god help us

groovinaviator 10-23-2008 07:56 AM

More often than not I find the gate count is correct and my flight attendant is the R-tard that can't count to 50.

Stew75 10-23-2008 02:10 PM

or they would count 46 and the gate would have 48 so we would ask are there 2 empty seats or 4? they would just seem confused by the question.

Mason32 10-23-2008 02:21 PM

Flight XXXX would like to declare an emergency... we have either 40 or 43 souls on board.....

I'm not a FA but I have experience counting pax onboard and airplane. It's one of the hardest things they have to do. You try it on your 5th leg when you just don't give S anymore before you call someone retarded.

rorwizard 10-23-2008 04:20 PM

I had a flight attendant tell me that we had 52 pax on board once... on a 50 seat a/c...
