Default Compass Leadership Change

Compass leadership change:

Today is my last day at Compass Airlines and for me it’s a very bittersweet occasion. I am excited about the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead but certainly sad to be leaving. Together, we have built a new regional airline that we can all be very proud of. Moving forward Compass is well positioned to become an ever increasingly important player in the regional business. Compass has the right people, the right aircraft, the right culture and the right attitude. Safe, reliable, great customer service, and low cost – don’t lose that focus! I know Compass will continue its success and I want to personally thank every employee on the Compass team for your hard work and impressive dedication. It hasn’t always been smooth or easy but you have stayed focused on the mission and have shown what you can accomplish by working together. The culture we have established is unique in this business and I encourage you all to continue to build on the great foundation we have in place. This has been a wonderful career opportunity but unexpectedly and more importantly a very satisfying personal experience. I will certainly miss you all but won’t be far so I hope you check in with me from time to time. Thanks again and best of luck to each of you!

Now for the good news! Tim Campbell is the new President of Compass Airlines and I couldn’t be happier. Tim has exactly the right combination of experience and leadership skills to take Compass forward. Tim comes to Compass from Northwest Airlines where in his last role he served as Vice President of Regional Airline Operations. Prior to that Tim was VP Flight Ops/SOC Administration and has held a variety of positions in Finance, Ops Analysis and Performance Analysis. He holds both an Aerospace Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Seattle University. Prior to Northwest Tim worked in the Aerodynamics Engineering department at Boeing. Outside of his impressive resume I am most excited about Tim’s appointment because of his personality and superb leadership skills. He is an open, candid and approachable leader who welcomes employee input and involvement. Candidly, he is nicer, smarter and much better looking than me! Seriously, the selection of a new President for Compass was personally important to me and you should know that Tim has my full support and endorsement. Please take the time to introduce yourself to Tim and welcome him to the Compass family!

Now let’s go back to work!

~ John

Hello,

I briefly wanted to say how excited I am for this opportunity and how honored I am to lead the great team at Compass. I look forward to getting out right away and meeting with as many of you as possible. I plan to spend a good part of next few weeks listening to your thoughts, perspectives, and whatever else you’d like to share with me.

As John’s note mentioned, he and I have worked closely as Compass grew from the time when there was only a handful of employees to its current size of over 700 team members. Based on this experience, I don’t anticipate major changes to the guidance you have previously received from the current leadership team. That said, we are in the airline business after all and no one can fully predict what challenges and opportunities lie ahead of us, but I pledge to you myself and the rest of the leadership team will meet whatever comes our way.
Compass is a great airline and is in a great position to continue serving Delta/Northwest for a long time. You are the people that serve our customers so well, day in and day out, and it is because of you that I am eager to join the Compass team.

More to come, but in the meantime, feel free to send me your thoughts at @compassairline.com

Take care,
Tim

Just woke up and saw that on the company site. I wonder what the hell is going on that we don't know about!

Good question. I know DAL and NWA management got streamlined so maybe Tim's NWA job disappeared and he is getting a new one at Compass. Don't know what this means but it doesn't sound like a bad thing for Compass.

I met Tim this time last year and as the e-mail states, he was the VP of regional ops for NW...so this seems logical being that Delta is skaking up NW management.

Personally, I have no knowledge on the subject but feel that this could mean good things for Compass since Tim is a "higher" level exec now running Compass.

I would say however, this was a total surprise. No rumors circulating before the fact about this one!

John is going to Comair. Heard it on my flight tonight, when we had someone from management on board. Said that nobody was supposed to find out until after the markets closed. Why? I do not know...I have a bad feeling about this.

Delta's president of regional ops was sent to be Comair CEO in 2005 and shrunk them. Comair's next CEO shrunk them even more, then was named president of Delta regional ops, and has shrunk them even more since. I really don't have a point to make. have a nice day.

What's the bad feeling about? Bad for Comair, or bad for Compass?
