"The Pinnacle pilots want your flying"

Got this in an email from our president today. The email was completely blank with no signature but this was the attachment. I later walked to the crew room after my trip to find him standing there with a small surrounding of pilots telling anyone who would listen how Alpa is plotting with the PNCL pilots to destroy all we have worked with.....So this is how Colgan management wants to do things?

Colgan Air, Inc.
KEEPING YOU INFORMED
THE PINNACLE PILOTS WANT YOUR FLYING
The Pinnacle pilots want your flying. Since Pinnacle Airlines Corp. acquired Colgan Air,
Inc., ALPA and its member pilots at Pinnacle Airlines, Inc., another subsidiary of our corporate
parent, Pinnacle Airlines Corp., have been tirelessly working to get you integrated into ALPA’s
pilot membership at Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. They tried to get you to vote for ALPA last year and
you said “No.” They have used the grievance and arbitration process in their contract with
Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. to try and force Pinnacle Airlines Corp. to restrict what Colgan can do.
And now they are back again to try and get you to voluntarily give up the independence you now
enjoy.
What is the grand design of ALPA’s Pinnacle pilots? Take a look at the “Parent
Agreement” they have proposed in the negotiations with Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. Under the
Parent Agreement, ALPA states it is trying to negotiate “job security and work preservation
provisions” in connection with its bargaining for a new CBA at Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. The Parent
Agreement would require our corporate parent, like Pinnacle Airlines, Inc., to be bound by the
job security and scope provisions of the Pinnacle pilot’s ALPA contract.
What does this mean for you? The Parent Agreement would effectively impose the
“Pinnacle Pilots’ Seniority List” on you, the Colgan pilots, and integrate Colgan with Pinnacle
Airlines, Inc. into a “single transportation system.” In other words, in the world according to the
Pinnacle Pilots and ALPA, Colgan’s new equipment will be flown by pilots on a combined
Colgan-Pinnacle pilot’s seniority list. Do you really want that?
Don’t take our word for it, ask ALPA for the language yourself.
If there was an integrated seniority list, who would win bids on your flying, you, or more
senior Pinnacle pilots? If you were on an integrated seniority list, who would be better protected
in a layoff, you or more senior Pinnacle pilots? Why do you think the Pinnacle pilots have
worked so hard to get you to be ALPA members? They certainly wouldn’t be pulling out all the
stops if they didn’t think it was better for them. Right now, they see you as potential
competitors. They want to eliminate the competition and create more opportunities for
themselves.
The scope proposal also limits Colgan to the aircraft that we have now by tail number
with no additional aircraft to be flown by Colgan pilots. What would this do to Colgan First
Officer opportunities to upgrade?
Look to your own self-interest. What is better for you and Colgan? Remember, if you
want to vote “No” to ALPA, don’t vote!
Meanwhile they have continued to hit us with loss of pay and ever increasingly worse work rules and schedules with not only no end in sight but talks of getting worse. Please vote in favor of the union and if you are on the fence please contact myself or any member of the OC who can give you straight facts.

Unfortunately these kind of scare tactics work on those who can't think for themselves and rely on spoon-fed propaganda.

usmc-sgt 11-20-2008 01:17 PM

That is the sad thing and I think they know it. The majority of us who know that their propaganda is not worth the paper it is printed on is not the problem. I project that this letter and the upcoming tactics will cause at least 20-50 minimum no votes. Even more reason we need overwhelming support on the yes side.

Copperhed51 11-20-2008 01:52 PM

Do you guys need a simple majority or 2/3 majority or what? Pardon my ignorance on this, I'm just unaware of how the process works.

Too Tall 11-20-2008 02:03 PM

50% plus 1 vote of the pilot group

mooney 11-20-2008 02:08 PM

Don't worry guys, soon Buddy will send all of you Fedex Saturday Overnight delivery letters with even more gloom and doom.........and try to scare your family as well into talking you out of a union. Hopefully you have seen what backstabing a-holes you work for.

mooney 11-20-2008 02:16 PM

One other thing.....senior Memphis guys don't wanna move to the Northeast and fly turboprops in the winter, or move to Houston and fly turboprops in the summer....:)

We voted 99% to shut our airline down because of BS like this. So if we don't want our own flying, we sure as heck don't want yours!:D

(Warning: Sarcasm Follows)

Dear Colgan Pilots,

Unions don't care about you. Only we, your management, truly care about you. Just look at some of the things we have done in the last few months to help you:

We took away your run ups -- all those pesky 15 minute credits were so confusing

We changed the hot reserve rules -- we know you just love sitting for 4:44 hours without pay

We have improved the schedules -- no more unequal lines: everybody gets a hodge podge of day trips, stand ups, early trips, late trips, and a couple days of reserve. Three and four day trips have been improved by having at least one day with not more than two legs. We, your management friends, understand that time you spend off duty, you could be getting into trouble (idle hands are the Devil's playground). So, by keeping you at work, with disorganized sleep schedules, you won't have the chance to go astray.

We have regularly paid you less than you earn by miscalculating over guarantee checks -- as one manager put it we "think we have paid you enough"

And why have work rules set by a "contract"? It is so much easier to just wait until we issue a new memo telling you how we have simplified your life. Future memos will be issued with a complimentary jar of Vaseline for your added comfort.

Respectfully,
Annie Moose

Why dont you guys just give up your paychecks already? You're selling yourself out to that fat Chuck as it is. Get it over with and work for free already, it would be more dignified.

Your problems will not go away by taking pay cuts. I am amazed that nearly 20 years of degradation in our quality of work, pay, and life hasn't thought most pilots that lesson yet. It will NEVER stop until we, PILOTS, put a stop to it.

CaptainCarl 11-20-2008 03:42 PM

Wait... What happened? Pinnacle Corporation owns Pinnacle Airlines and, now, Colgan? Sorry guys, I haven't been able to keep tabs on everyone.

And who does Pinnacle fly for? And Colgan?
