How far in advance do you know what your schedule will be?

Here at Commutair we bid individual trips not lines and scheduling has the right to change those trips to make the entire bid work, which they always do. It is now 4 days before our new bid starts and we have no schedule yet. No one knows if they will be working over Thanksgiving or not.

How far in advance does everyone else find out what their schedule will be?

Wow, seems like a great organization you got there.

Generally at comair, bid packets for the next month come out in the beginning part of the month before.

for example

December bid packets are released somewhere from Nov. 1-12th.

Schedules for the next month usually come out maybe 10 days before the current month is over, with a schedule adjustment window that closes a handful of days before the beginning of the new month.

chq bid packets come out on the 12th and we get the schedules on the 19th of every month

AMR pilots find out today their schedules for next month. The exceptions being RLF and CMP lines who get their schedules after the trip trade window closes...

Bid packets arrive on or about the 15th of each month, and the bids close five days later at 1200 central time. This month they arrived on the 16th and closed today the 21st.

To add to Mason per Eagle's contract:

MONTHLY BIDDING
1. Schedules for bidding purposes will be posted and made available
to each pilot at each domicile on or before fifteen (15) days prior to
the start of the next contractual month.
2. Bidding will close at 1200, Central Time, five (5) days after posting.
Final bid awards will be posted as soon as available but in no case
more than five (5) days after closing time for bidding

At TSA bids come out on the 17th of every month, then awards come out on the 21st.

Comair gave me my schedule for the holidays. They had if figured out by at least Sept 22. They figured they would do me a favor over the holidays and let me be with my friends and family. How did they come up with such an awesome plan for me?? They just decided that a furlough would just the hook up I wanted:rolleyes:.

Here's to eating a ton of food and drinking a ton of beer:D

ASA's bid packages published on the 10th and initial schedules on the 14th. Final schedules posted on 24th.

Where I work they put up nexts month calendar on the 15th..you mark down the 9 days you want off and then they post it on the 1st of the month to show you what days you will be flying, off, or on reserve.

rsliman 11-21-2008 08:32 PM

at Skywest the bid opens on the 10th, closes on the 17th. sometime on the 19th we get our award, and we can start trading, and dropping on the 24th.

I was at Commutair for a while, and nothing ****ed me off more then not knowing how crappy my life would be for then next month until 2 days prior!

Ive been there.... I feel for you guys!

At PDT bid packages are distributed on the first Friday of every month, our requests must be submitted by the following Tuesday. The company distributes hard line awards on that Friday. Build up lines and reserve lines are distributed in the following two weeks. So hard line holders know in the middle of the month and reserve/build up line holders have around 1.5 weeks. Doesn't seem too bad, but I think at Airways mainline they get something like an entire month - something to the effect of bids for December would have been out in October. Now that's good scheduling.

Sorry to hear the rough life for those who don't know until it is too late to plan for things....good luck in fighting the good flight to make changes!

AKfreighter 11-22-2008 10:20 AM

We know about 12 hours in advance, sometimes 12 minutes. Yes, part 121.

The guys and gals at Colgan rarely know the week before. There are no set dates and you may have to rebid after the lines you just submitted were reworked to make each one equal at 11 days off with reserve days and stand ups! If the awards aren't out you just show up on the first to see if you fly, but knowing Colgan, you'll sit "hot reserve" anyway for no pay ;) But seriously, no consistency with bid packages, no firm dates for awards, no grace period for trip trades and absolutely no dropping trips. Hope this helps! VOTE my friends, VOTE...

flyguyniner11 11-23-2008 05:46 AM

I'm guess we get ours on the 30th this month with the holiday and then the weekend. I'm sure Noone will be working then so next mon is my guess!

saab2000 11-23-2008 06:10 AM

AWAC captain bids are early in the month, like around the 4th or 5th. Bid award is on Monday and the final schedules for the next month are issued around the 12th or 13th.

F/Os are a week later and their final schedules are published around the 20th or so.

RJ Pilot 11-23-2008 07:55 AM

I always know mine months in advance because I am senior.

1900luxuryliner 11-23-2008 08:17 AM

Lakes= Monthly schedules come out on the 10th. Bid submission by the 15th. Awards by the 20th. Seems to normally work out pretty well. Sometimes schedules are out a few days late, which gives us a few more days to submit the bid, but we almost always know our award by the 20th.

usmc-sgt 11-24-2008 03:23 AM

We had our bid packets by around the 14th or somewhere along those lines and they were due by the 17th and today is the 24th and we still have nothing.

Flight attendants who have a union had their packets early into the second week of the month, bids due around the 15th or so and have had their lines since the 17th or 18th. All of the lines are done by the same people, pilots just get them a week+ later.

newarkblows 11-24-2008 03:46 AM

Expressjet: if you are a lineholder the bids come out in the first couple days of the month prior, bid closes somewhere around the 7th or 8th usually. we have an initial line improvement window which is 24 hrs to drop, trade, pickup flying and is only open to lineholders. The secondary bid which is for reserves, relief lines(people not senior enough to hold a hard line but more senior then most reserves) is posted around the middle of the month and closes around the 20-23 of the month. The secondary line improvement window opens around the 25th of the month and is open to everyone.

If you are a lineholder and dont want to trade you will know somewhere around the 7th or 8th of the month prior and if your reserve you will know around the 23-24. The line improvement windows are a free for all and can be done online. They can make or break your qol of life if your junior or if you screwed up your bid. I didnt realize we were that lucky to know so far in advance.
