Great Lakes Hiring???

Does anyone know what the current hiring status is of GLA? And what their future hiring plans look like?

BURflyer 11-25-2008 10:19 AM

Are you kidding?

CRJDriver 11-25-2008 10:24 AM

Well considering GLA is the only place hiring besides Mesaba, and there have been many GLA threads asking the exact question you did, yea I thought you might be flamebaiting.

Look everybody! It's the WEEKLY "Does anyone know what the current hiring status is of GLA?" thread.

Vegaspilot 11-25-2008 02:09 PM

Well the last GLA one got closed for some reason. Kinda annoying when reading material gets shut down. LOL

CaptainTeezy 11-25-2008 02:51 PM

CRJ Driver

That's great info about the company...but none of them address my direct question...are they actually hiring? I have applied to a lot of places that say they are "hiring" and never hear back or I get the response we are not hiring even though it says so on their site. And some companys are hiring...but it is only like 2 pilots from a pool of 500. I guess I should have asked are they ACTUALLY hiring or how many are they hiring a month...what are the plans for hiring for the next few months. BTW I did my research on this forum and did not find the info I was looking for. As I said I checked out the threads that CRJ Driver listed above.

Seeing as how plans CHANGE DAILY it is nice to just keep up with a weekly vibe.

You're right....you should post this thread daily since weekly is not enough. I'm sure the answer will change just as often.

Great Mistakes is always looking to hire anyone with a pulse.

CaptainTeezy 11-25-2008 03:23 PM

EVH...In my research through other threads I noticed you were very rude to others about Great Lakes...and like some of the other threads requesting current accurate information, because of you and others like you...they have gone nowhere...maybe that is why there are so many of them...everytime someone asks about GLA you and your friends act like bullies. Since you already KNOW EVERYTHING about GLA dont bother checking out the GLA threads...unless you just like acting out.

Before this thread goes nowhere fast, I'm going to take a wild guess, in fact an educated guess that yes they are hiring. Now, your more probable question is; are they calling, well considering the state of the industry probably not.

I think I answered his question just fine. ;)

Copperhed51 11-25-2008 04:12 PM

For the record, I applied back in August and have emailed them 3 times since and have had no response. I think their min's were a bit lower when I first applied and I met them at that point. Now I think I fall a bit short on the TT but had been hoping my 121 experience and multi time would help make up for it. Either way, I disagree about them looking to hire anybody with a pulse.

You have to excuse evh. He flies a nice, shiny JET!

(And will likely continue to fly it from the right seat for the next 15 years)

ZBowFlyz 11-25-2008 06:33 PM

Has anyone been called lately? If so what were/are your times? (If you don't mind) I meet 135.243 (IFR-too lazy to look) and I haven't heard a thing. I'm a local too. Oh, well maybe after the holidays.

Trogdor 11-25-2008 08:16 PM

Here is the deal:

Hiring around 15 per month from now till the sun runs out of fuel. Seriously, Lakes has a ton of cities still to be opened and they are trying to increase the fleet size. Still 20-30 CAs short for the flying we are doing now, not including the new cities.

What it is going to take to get called:
-Internal Rec: 500-600 Total with 50-100 multi
-No Rec: 1500 total, previous 121 or 135

And before you ask, DEN is basically the only domicile now.

Talk to you next week when we go through this again.

Lakes is 121 by the way.

Nope, STL is still open. I know, because I'm STL based. Having said that, I've been STL based since September but have never seen it once, since the only flying we get to do is MKE TDY!!! Figure that one out! Supposedly we have "big schedule changes" coming in January (according to the line lady)...so who knows what that means for the base. After talking to Dir. of Ops about 2 months ago, he said that he thought the STL base would be canned in the spring...they're not willing to kill it until they are sure that they won't need it anymore.

Trogdor 11-27-2008 09:32 AM

My point was that STL is stocked with the few people who actually want to be there, so newbies will be based in DEN.

And yes, I'm always up for a free beer.

Vegaspilot 11-27-2008 01:32 PM

So I'm guessing with 4800+ amd previous 121/135 exp I should hear something sooner or later?

camba0a6 11-27-2008 03:30 PM

internal rec will really help and speed up your process! Had a good buddy of mine who got furloughed, right around the 1100 hour mark who has a Dec. interview class, he only applied 3 weeks ago! We are still hiring, definitely not everyone with a pulse, but with so many resumes in the pile, it really helps if you know someone!!

How many beers does it cost to know someone these days? :)

This is going to sound crazy, but you may have too much time to get hired at ZK. They have never liked hiring higher time guys, and that is probably still the case. They think you are just going to bail immediately. It is too bad for us on the line, I wish they would hire people with actual experience instead of me being forced to be a 121 captain and a CFI at the same time.

Good luck.
