empty airports

Wandering if anyone else that was flying as a passenger this week noticed how empty the airports were or if it was just me flying into JFk and MSY.

I was in DCA, SFO, and DTW. They were far from empty.

flynwmn 11-27-2008 05:10 PM

PHL and MSP were not packed but I would not call them empty.

Are you drunk or something?

withthatsaid182 11-27-2008 06:19 PM

JFK was pretty empty this week...it was a little busier today...our flights were generally full...none of the reserves got used...i love sitting ready reserve and not getting used....

JetPipeOverht 11-27-2008 06:53 PM

I haven't been to JKF in years !

The Juice 11-27-2008 07:01 PM

Traffic supposed to be down 10% from last year, still hardly empty

TRS531 11-27-2008 07:12 PM

At AirTran, our thanksgiving bookings were down 3-4% from last year I believe. The Atlanta airport was certainly slow yesterday....our operation was about 75% on-time....Concourse D was a ghost town too....

DublinFlyer 11-28-2008 05:42 AM

IAD wasn't that busy yesterday. It had it's spurts, but for the most part I thought it was a quiet day. Hell I had the whole concourse D pretty much to myself for about 3 hours. It started to pick up around 3:30pm. I arrived into IAD about 1:45, and I saw one plane at the A gates. We were the 3rd airplane on the south side of the C/D gates. I was very surprised.

Avroman 11-28-2008 02:03 PM

MEM Wednesday was busy.
DTW today had good amount of people but seemed REALLY slow as far as flights coming and going.

Jetcap37 11-28-2008 02:37 PM

DTW is busier than usual because most of Armpit of the USA is out of money and house. They have no choice but living in the terminals with the winter around the corner.

Jetcap37 11-28-2008 02:40 PM

DCA is always busy since the automaker lobbyist are pouring in to save the USA worst lead industry, at least for a few more years.

Jetcap37 11-28-2008 02:43 PM

SFO is busy because the are setting up a man-man and woman-woman rally to convince the world it is their God Given right to be married, just don't tell the Pope :p

Don't tell the Mormon's either... They are still mad they can't have 3 wives, so they don't want gays to get married either.

XJkid 11-29-2008 10:51 AM

MrBigAir 11-29-2008 11:08 AM

I'm calling this guy out on flamebait. After just reading his last post on CFI time before their first job,

"I thought about getting my CFI but when I got the call from XJ I figured that was gonna be the quickest way to pay all my student loans off cuz it paid pretty good and was a gauranteed paycheck unlike instructing which some of my friends had to do and they said it sucked because the weather was bad all the time and they couldn't fly -XJkid"

Mods please take a look at this guy, not the the type of attitude we want on APC.

man seriously, the thread asked the question and i honestly answered the question to the best of ability so don't hate on me because i didn't instruct like everyone else did.

Luv2Rotate 11-29-2008 02:46 PM

I didnt instruct.....

Colnago 11-29-2008 02:50 PM

I don't know....LGA was far from empty today. It was pretty full. I imagine that Thursday evening may have been ghost town. I left MSP, Thursday afternoon, and it was pretty empty, so was LGA on arrival. Today, though, both airports were pretty busy.

i knew that cfi thread would blow up eventually...i never thought it'd be in another thread tho...crazy!!!!

i'vebeen sitting in my crash pad for 5 days without flying...i'm beginning to really pay attention to these little things....i.e. i'm goin crazy...

TristarJS30 11-29-2008 02:58 PM

I thought "The 9" was the DC-9.

Between that, bragging about "never being a CFI", or your tag line about "being proud to fly for the best DCI carrier" makes me think its all flame bait.

rlh724 11-30-2008 01:23 PM

Pit is always empty ashame of what happend to a good airport.

Okay Mr. Helper,
What are you? An aspiring Junior Thought Police Officer? Were you a hall monitor in school?

Get over yourself.

Yes, the best darned one how did you know?...:D (sarcasm note)

I know I wasn't the only one that brought that poster to the mods attention. It was obvious the poster was just trying to tick people off and that has no use here.

Anyways back to the original topic of airports being empty, some of that has to do with the design age. If the airport was designed pre 9/11 odds are its going to seem a little bit emptier as it was designed to accomodate pax and nonpax in the terminal area.

Killer51883 12-01-2008 06:48 AM

pbi was a cluster yesterday with passengers all over the place. Dca was a mess specially in the USair terminal with all those delayed flights...

ImEbee 12-01-2008 07:13 AM

Commuting between DEN and SEA on Wendnesday evening and Sunday afternoon I had a seat in the back both ways and backup flights with open seats in the back. I must say though DEN was packed last night. At least it seemed so it seemed since they think 50 seats per gate should be enough to hold everyone.

CTPILOT 12-01-2008 08:53 AM

the airports are in a slump I know HPN is always busy cuz its so darn small in the terminal, it was even busier when NWA used to bring the diesel 9's in thats a DC-9 not the canadian version of the Mad dog
