Thats exactly what it is. It only accepts 7 characters and not 8. I understand it's a courtsey, but when you cannot even get near the captain to ask permission to jumpseat is not right. Their pilots have no problem being pulled up and verified in CASS in our system.

So, I'm at PDT and am gonna try and hop on Southwest this weekend and was wondering if this has been worked out. If their system only accepts 7 digits, how do we help the agents out and know how to enter it. I know its our employee# followed by EN and the airline code is US for most CASS stuff. How do we put it into Southwest's system?
Just wondering if people have figured out how to do it. |

I recently jumpseated a Southwest flight, and the gate agents were unsuccessful at pulling me up in CASS. They still gave me a seat in the back, but I was not jumpseat approved. I've never had a problem at any other carrier.
Any other fellow PSA pilots out there know what combination of employee number and airline code works for Southwests CASS system. We tried all sorts of combinations using the employee number on the front and the one on the back of my ID, coupled with the "JS" carrier code. Also, they were asking for my location??? Told them I was based in TYS. Anyone have any insight or experience with this? |

The Captain can not approve you to ride in the Cockpit without a CASS approval. To even ask the CA to take you in the cockpit in that situation I think is a bit rude. You are literally asking him to put his career on the line so you can jumpseat. The TSA would revoke his SIDA clearance if he got caught taking you and he would not be able to work let alone what the FAA would do.
Imagine I was in your new hire class. I give you my phone number and say hey, I am going to get food later. Give me a call and if I'm done with my assignment, I will take you. Other ppl have cars but there is no space. However, it is known that if I decide to go, you can ask me. Your only other choice of food is a frozen bagel you have. It is not a right, you could find a way to get your own food. I was offering you the opportunity to possibly get some food. Now, all of a sudden you cannot get in touch with me b/c you had the wrong number, and that was the only way you would be able ask me for a ride in my car to grab some food. You would not be wrong in saying, you told me to call I had the wrong number, so I had no way of contacting you to possibly have the opportunity to grab a bite to eat. |
