MESA to return Two airframes a year on USair side

This excerpt was taken from NOV faq page on US airways site
"(What is the current outlook on our wholly owned regional carriers: Will we see more or
less flying going to them? Any planned changes in fleet, if there is a shift in express
flying? Does the company give any priority to wholly owned versus contracted flying?

There are no changes planned at the moment with the only exception being that we have some
leases set to end at Piedmont in 2009/2010. We are currently in negotiations and are hopeful that
we can economically retain the aircraft. We have inducted the last of the aircraft in service with
Republic and the overall Express fleet will shrink marginally from here as we return Mesa aircraft
(two per year). Of course, we would welcome the opportunity to leverage our wholly-owned
carriers’ efficiency by adding aircraft and flying to them, but we will not be growing in this current
domestic environment. )"

As stated in my other post that was closed, this probably means 200's. However I believe that this could mean taking some of the 900's out of service. According to US Airways report as of OCT 2008 MESA only operates 11 CRJ-200's and I think by contract they are the only operator allowed to work US airways Express west but if someone else knows more about it please chime in. They also operate 38 CRJ-900's, but these are operated on both east and west sides of the Express system. If these aircraft were taken from the CRJ-900 bank that flying could be redistributed to any of the other express carriers. Since from what I have heard the express system also is over scope on large RJ's, But i don't have the contract or know it that well so this is pure speculation.

Give it up! Don't create another thread on the exact same topic just because your last one was locked.

What's the point of this thread dude?

CRJPlt 12-06-2008 12:54 PM

Just another Mesa thread, as if there isn't enough already

I will bite.....although Mesa's website isn't the most up-to-date, here are the numbers of planes they operate.

Canadair 900 Regional Jet 45
Canadair 700 Regional Jet 20
Canadair 200/100 Regional Jet 54

If there are a reduction, could be leases up, or might be used for operational spares....who knows....does it truly matter though?

No. It's old news Mesa is turning in 200's, who cares?

Mesa does not operate 200's for US Airways. They operate 900's.

I am hopeful that the replacement aircraft will come to the wholly owneds; however, I would not be suprised if Republic bribes their way into the flying and take our jobs just like Midwest's.

Don't they operate some ERJ's for them. The thread is about returning airframes, not CRJs. I find it hard to believe they would return 900s in 86seat pax configs.

You're wrong, they do fly 200's out west for US Airways, been on them many times and yesterday in fact (SLC-PHX)

Mesa lost all 200 flying for legacy airways out of PHL in 2005. But there were always a handful in PHX for AW, and these still operate under the new USA banner.

I could be wrong but this is exactly why I think the two airframes could be comming out of the 38 900's and not the 11 200's. MESA does quite a bit of CRJ-900 flying out of CLT. Flying that is done right alongside PSA, AWC, Republic, and PDT. It makes more sence to take airframes and flying out of the eastside where there are plenty of other Airways regionals to pick it up should the flying that those 900's are doing now should not just be dropped. Which there is a good chance that Airways could be using this to take some flying out concidering they have said they want to cut seats.

I have double checked what I thought was the case here at Mesa, and we are indeed reducing -200's. There are only 5ish left (I'm never in PHX, too senior for my blood). The language surrounding it is in the 2007 annual report, for those interested.

The number of -900's for USAirways is stedy at 38, split between CLT and PHX. We have more block hours in PHX.

Mesa currently has 11 200s in service for HP/US and they are all based in PHX. This is factual and true. If you question that feel free to PM me.

I was told wrong by a PHX CA buddy. 11 it is.

Edit - is that 11 in US colors? I count 8 in service today on FTWeb. The rest must be in c-check or spares.
